For new forum users:

MU= Multi User

The thread is meant for idea generation/mock up generation. For those who have the time, working prototypes or a fully working OS (hopefully OSS) are welcome.

On http://nuigroup.com/forums/viewthread/3893 (and its reply: http://nuigroup.com/forums/viewreply/25480/) there are ideas on how to activate or call a system menu.

For a general MT OS, what would/should the default launch/landing screen be?

Any ideas how to manage multiple user accounts where only one user is logged in but many share the table? Should user accounts use a virtual keyboard to enter user name and password, online gestures to enter username and password or another system (or combination of systems) such as click an icon to represent a user (name is entered on a virtual keyboard) and click another set of icons to represent their password so that when prompted for their password, the screen fills up with 20 icons out of which 3 (or more) are related to the user and the other 17 are randomly generated?

Multi touch surfaces are impressive to say the least. I am not an avid poster to this site, but I read quite a bit. From all this reading I feel as if the community was rather restricted by the hardware itself, prices, functionality etc. So I began thinking, how to erase the idea of a table itself, the lesser need for a giant box, but to still have multi touch at the palm of our hands. Then I realized how its truly possible, not easy to start with, but in the end it will be a different type of touch. I like to call it AirWare, lame, but to say the least it makes sense. I purchased my first iMac six years again and have always loved the little PhotoBooth application it came with, especially on my newest iMac that you are able to leave and it will process what is there so when you step back it only sees you (though this function has never been 100% it still gives theory. Now the next bit is where I need a lot of people to stay with me: the idea of creating a 3D overlap on any OS that will when glasses are added project the OS outside of the normal screen bounds. Not that it is actually projecting, but please stay with me. Next the computer will be able to take scans using a built in web-cam like PhotoBooth to take out what isn’t needed. Next it will need to scan something of your hand or a glove that truly stands out to the computer to follow its functions. Lastly by using most computers that now have built in bluetooth you are able to follow the distance of said 3D glasses to omit a correct distance in pertaining to where fingers are pointing to its functionality.

Yes. Impossible it seems, but honestly from what I have seen in these forums the possibilities are far, but not quite impossible.

A few things you are going to point out.
1. At least 95% of todays computers do NOT have built in 3D graphics and/or screens. I know, but there will be. There already are 3DTV that consumers can purchase now that prototyping is flawed, but possible to do on.
2. 3D glasses with Bluetooth sensors is ridiculous to talk about. Yes, but if a homebrew person can shove one into an old iPod Video, I’m sure its possible.
3. A 3D overlap of the OS? Impossible to even think about. Given the type of stage we are at with 3D, it’s possible because we have the tools, all we need is the force behind it.
4. Picking up hands will mix with other skins. Yes, but if we can figure out for now to use a certain color of glove like I said it may be possible.
5. How to sense individual fingers and touches. This is the tricky one, honestly I don’t know as of now other than giving every one a separate color, but that seems relatively unrealistic.

What are your thoughts?

It’s some years i am moving along research on natural interfaces to support knowledge sharing, sketching and shared problem solving.
Recently i deployed a solution for a public event: multitouch technology and a sketching application.

Is there someone else researching in this field?

Hi,

Actually I’m designing an Appz for my diploma proyect; I’m not a programmer so I’ve to do a simulation; I’m thinking to project a Flash animation, and to do, with a partner, pretending to move the objects of the animaton, we are going to act, and to record and to edit that. I did consider the projected image resolution and size of projected area in the surface of course, and I test sizes of the elements of the interface.

Now, I don’t know Flash neither :( so I’ve to make documentation for the person who will do the animation. I attached a secuence (in spanish, but with a lot of images). What do you think? or what would you do in a similar situation? (if you don’t want (or could) to spent money in programation)

thanks in advance

The following video is from the same conference. Don Norman, the grandfather of UX and usability, in my opinion, provides good advice for UX people trying to make their ideas known in the business world. Don Norman was the co-author of one of my psychology textbooks when I was an undergraduate student a long, long time ago. His earlier work was in cognitive psychology. This video is about an hour long and is especially informative if you are just now learning about interaction design:
