        <p>Greeting guys,
</p>
<p>
Second introduction on myself, I am from Johor, Malaysia and currently an Electrical and Electronic Engineering student from University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.
</p>
<p>
After some hard works after around 2 months, I finally got my MT box working and I am satisfies with it so far.
<br />
Due to my old laptop, so the performance and response for the flash applications are a bit slow.

<b>Rear DI reactiVision Linux Project:</b>
</p>
<p>
Greetings. I thought I would take a little time introduce my MT project to the NUI group and show the progress that has been made thus far.
<br />
First I would like to thank everyone here. I could not have gotten this far without this fantastic community. I&#8217;ve been working at this for a few months off and on. The hard part was waiting for parts to arrive from distant lands.&nbsp; <img src="http://nuigroup.com/images/smileys/grin.gif" width="19" height="19" alt="grin" style="border:0;" />
</p>
<p>
The goal is to create a MT tabletop using reactiVision that can provide an interactive surface for D&amp;D style gaming. Fiducials will be used to interact with the surface and environments. The surface will need to be able to recognize fingers, fiducials, and possibly miniature figurines. Seating should be available for up to 6 players and 1 DM. The main goal is to display interactive overhead maps that can be used by the players. We have bunch of ideas floating around for coding the actual application but for now the focus is to get the basics working.
</p>
<p>
<u>Parts:</u>
<br />
BenQ MP512ST projector
<br />
PS3 eye camera (converted to 850nm IR bandpass with wide angle lens)
<br />
NIR Optical Filter, 850DF20, 11.5mm painted edge
<br />
2.1mm 160-Degree Wide Angle Lens
<br />
Walmart mirror (will be made FS soon)
<br />
Computer:
<br />
---Debian 5.01
<br />
---AMD Athalon 64 4000+ (clocked @ 2.4 GHZ presently)
<br />
---2 GB Ram
<br />
---Nvidia GTX 7800 (256 MB ram)
<br />
4x 48 IR LED arrays 850nm
</p>
<p>
I used my 3D model as a guide to create the plans for the frame and built the frame from 2x4 studs. I wanted it to be solid because there would be up to 7 people at the table. The interactive surface area is 3 feet square. There will be about a 12 inch shelf around the entire outside edge for the players to place books/dice etc. on.
</p>
<p>
Frame:
<br />
<img src="http://www.analoglost.org/images/multitouch/NuiForum/frame2small.jpg"  alt='frame2small.jpg' />
<br />
<img src="http://www.analoglost.org/images/multitouch/NuiForum/frame3small.jpg"  alt='frame3small.jpg' />
<br />
<img src="http://www.analoglost.org/images/multitouch/NuiForum/frame7small.jpg"  alt='frame7small.jpg' />
<br />
I used vellum for the surface. I was unable to find a 3 foot roll at the begining so I used a 2 foot roll and just make sections for testing. The final surface will be one single sheet.
</p>
<p>
Parts arriving:
<br />
<img src="http://www.analoglost.org/images/multitouch/NuiForum/partssmall.jpg"  alt='partssmall.jpg' />
<br />
The small gray rectangle is a sample of the 7D006 Plexiglas from Ancalagon. After I sell my children <img src="http://nuigroup.com/images/smileys/wink.gif" width="19" height="19" alt="wink" style="border:0;" /> (its expensive) I will order some of this great material to replace my current surface.
</p>
<p>
I then went thought the process of converting my PS3eye to add the IR pass filter and the wide angle lens. Again, without the great information form this community, this part would have been folly. I bought the cheap webcam from Hong Kong that was suggested to replace the lens housing and the filter was purchased from omegabob off ebay. The whole process took only an hour or so after I read all the information provided here and had all the parts.
<br />
<img src="http://www.analoglost.org/images/multitouch/NuiForum/ps3eye_001small.jpg"  alt='ps3eye_001small.jpg' />
<br />
<img src="http://www.analoglost.org/images/multitouch/NuiForum/ps3eye_002small.jpg"  alt='ps3eye_002small.jpg' />
<br />
<img src="http://www.analoglost.org/images/multitouch/NuiForum/ps3eye_converted.jpg"  alt='ps3eye_converted.jpg' />
</p>
<p>
The IR arrays took awhile to arrive. While I waited I tested a few different screen materials and poured through he forums some more. I settled on vellum for now.
<br />
<img src="http://www.analoglost.org/images/multitouch/NuiForum/frame8small.jpg"  alt='frame8small.jpg' />
</p>
<p>
A few nights ago I finally got all the parts working, drivers installed, and reactiVision up and running. There is still a lot of fine tuning that need to be done but here are my test results.
<br />
<img src="http://www.analoglost.org/images/multitouch/NuiForum/reactivision001.jpg"  alt='reactivision001.jpg' />
<br />
<img src="http://www.analoglost.org/images/multitouch/NuiForum/reactivision002.jpg"  alt='reactivision002.jpg' />
<br />
<img src="http://www.analoglost.org/images/multitouch/NuiForum/reactivision003.jpg"  alt='reactivision003.jpg' />
</p>
<p>
<u>To do list:</u> Not complete I am sure.
<br />
Convert the mirror to a front surface mirror.
<br />
Install cooling fans.
<br />
Calibrate reactiVision to compensate for the wide angle lens.
<br />
Install cable/wire management.
<br />
Maybe try rosco gray surface.
<br />
Work on permanent fiducials.

        <p>Hi
</p>
<p>
you can see my concept in picture 3. my mirror is very big and it takes a lot of space in the box.
<br />
my question: can i position my camera diagonally or it must perpendicular to the surface? when ok, how big should the angle be about?
<br />
is it no problem for the software?
</p>
<p>
thank you

<b>Portable Large Interactive Display Concept - HyPe&#8217;s graduation project</b>
</p>
<p>
Well&#8230; My long journey for getting a Master&#8217;s degree in Industrial Design ended last April, where I concluded my graduation project.
</p>
<p>
After a long break I am finally taking some time to present some of my work to the community, I hope you like it.
</p>
<p>
For the coming days I will be editing this post adding images and videos. For now, I have added three teaser images. When I have resolved some music issues in the video for youtube I will display that here as well.
</p>
<p>
A month ago my suitcase was featured on Bright.tv a dutch tech lifestyle magazine:
<br />
If you understand Dutch it might be interesting to see the whole video, but if you don&#8217;t understand Dutch, just scan through the vid you can see some actual footage.
</p>
<p>
<a href="http://www.bright.tv/series/mobiele-multitouch-tafel">http://www.bright.tv/series/mobiele-multitouch-tafel</a>
</p>
<p>
-----------------------------------------------------------
</p>
<p>
For a local Dutch company called DPI Animation House I developed a concept where stakeholders in the building industry are given a tool to discuss their large sized building plans.
</p>
<p>
Traditional building plans have always been printed and presented on large sized documents, nowadays some architects still prefer these physical building plans; according to some because, scale and detail can be communicated much better on paper than on computer screens.
<br />
But since building plans are created on a computer more and more, printing them out for a meeting and handling during meetings can get messy.
</p>
<p>
The concept presented here is only one way to help supporting the stakeholders in this business. The concept features a suitcase which can be rolled and carried to meetings where building plans need to be discussed. This concept is realized in a physical prototype with a fully working interactive surface. The software which is presented in the video only reflects part of the total concept.
</p>
<p>
Some technical aspects:
</p>
<p>
The system is placed on the desired surface and generates a 60 inch projection with an ultra short throw projector.
<br />
Integrated camera with front LLP system - yes occlusion is present, but this does not seem to pose a problem when operating.
<br />
Wireless pens are used to annotate the CAD files and images, this is presented in the concept but not actually working (yet).
<br />
Prototype weight: 13 kg - woodworks make the prototype much heavier.
<br />
Proposed weight: 6-7 kg - with polyester fiber casing.
</p>
<p>
The software part is powered by a standard laptop which is carried along with the suitcase.
<br />
I used tbeta to receive and relay the touch inputs to a proof of concept flash program which could load up CAD files and images. In the bright.tv video you can see the CCV calibration screen, but for the graduation presentation CCV wasn&#8217;t out yet.
</p>

        <p>Hello everyone, this is my first post, I&#8217;ve been reading the forums for quite a while now and have built a 2.6m wide LLP system from what I&#8217;ve learned here (pics to follow), so thanks to everyone for sharing your knowledge.
<br />
My next project is slightly more ambitious. I have been asked to make an interactive sidewalk.
<br />
The system would be outdoors but would only be expected to work from dusk throughout the night.
<br />
The problems I could encounter would be a lack of IR light for a front DI based system.
<br />
I was thinking of using a number of these <a href="http://www.surveillance-spy-cameras.com/850nm-IR-emitters.htm">http://www.surveillance-spy-cameras.com/850nm-IR-emitters.htm</a>
<br />
to flood the sidewalk with IR and use a camera (currently using modified PS3 eye, but would like suggestions as to better cameras with faster frame rate at high resolution, budget is c$500 per camera) and a bandpass filter.
<br />
Has anyone built a similar system? any ideas on positioning of lighting or if there is a better idea? anything to look out for when building an interactive floor?
<br />
Thanks so much for your help guys.
</p>

Dear NUI-Readers
</p>
<p>
The Research Group Digital Media of the University of Bremen proudly presents <b>mr.T</b>:
<br />
<a href="http://dm.tzi.de/en/research/hci/mrt/"><a href="http://dm.tzi.de/en/research/hci/mrt/">http://dm.tzi.de/en/research/hci/mrt/</a></a>
</p>
<p>
Our <b>Mixed Reality Table</b> is built in DI technique and supports Full-HD resolution.
<br />
We solved a basic DI problem by realising a homogeneous IR-illumination for a large surface with 51&#8221; (130cm) in diagonal.
<br />
A technical report about the details of the illumination is in review process currently.
<br />
Already now, there are lots of <a href="http://www.dm.tzi.de/en/research/hci/mrt/images/">images</a> and <a href="http://www.dm.tzi.de/en/research/hci/mrt/plans">plans</a> on our website.

<p>
One problem though, I need it as quickly as possible. Since i live in Denmark, delivering this could take weeks. Does anybody know if this kit, or a similar one, can be found here in Europe?
</p>
