Hey I’ve been working on a portable system for a friend of mine, and its going pretty well!
The system uses a 15.4” LCD, 2 aixiz 10mw 780nm lasers, a ps3 eye camera with a bandpass filter and has a folding case.
I have attached some pictures and a video of it in action:

Sorry for the poor video quality! il put up a better one soon

Question about Multitouch Pad

Hi

I am working on Multitouch Pad on a mac.
I am new.

I downloaded CCV, and I guess that I correctly set everything with following instruction from Full guide tutorial.
and then I tried to calibrate this, but somehow my calibration screen stops. nothing happened.
When I press +, -, ...those keys didnt work.

Do I need another software for calibrating, like TUIOMouseDriver?
(If I need TUIOMouseDriver, is there TUIOMouseDriver for a mac?)

Or did I something wrong?

I’ve attached some pictures. (setting, screen..)
Help!!

37’’ LCD LLP + Front Camera(s)

Hi everybody.

I want to show you my 37’’ LCD LLP + Front Camera Multitouch Table.
When i was planing this table i kept the size in mind, as i want a very flat table (40 to 50 cm height).
Because of this low height, i decided to make a LCD LLP + Front Camera.

At the moment i am waiting for the lasers i orderd to make first tests.

After i finished my tests, i will going to start to finally build the table. (I want to know where to fit the lasers and the camera)

I am using a Xbox Live Vision Cam (changed IR-Filter to negatives), 2x 780nm 5mW Point Laser Modules with 90° Line Lens.
A second Vision Cam is on its way, and maybe i will try how a two cam setup can decrease the size of the table.
Xbox Live Vision works very well with CCV (tBeta) for me 640x480 @ 30fps and i have M12 mount allready built into the cam.

I’ve taken some pictures of the parts i allready have. (sorry for the picture quality. I’ve taken them with my mobile)

The LCD:

Xbox Live Vision with exposed IR-Filter:

Simple Paint Drawing of the planed setup. The final one will maybe look totally different to that, because i don’t know if it will work well this way:

I will post my progress here, and hopefully some first blobs, when the lasers arive next week.
At least, sorry for my english - I am from germany

InfoStrat.VE Release 2 - Bing Maps 3D for WPF, Surface, and Windows 7 Touch

Last night I published the second major release of InfoStrat.VE. This is a free, open source control that lets you use Bing Maps 3D in your WPF, Microsoft Surface, and Windows 7 Touch applications. It does all the dirty work so you don’t have to! Bing Maps 3D is a Win32 control, but through some fancy WPF interop wizardry, InfoStrat.VE has no airspace issues.

This version introduces the Win7TouchVEMap control, new and improved manipulations for Tilt and Pivot, plus a dozen bug fixes and feature requests submitted by the InfoStrat.VE community.

Read more and where to download at my blog:

MS hotfix KB975560 affects DirectShow - CCV stopped working with Unibrain Camera

Hello there!
I am Igor Schkrab from Brazil, and I guess that the information below may be useful for the community.

I had a problem at work where there was a CCV with unibrain fire-I camera working fine under Windows XP SP3 when suddenly after a reboot of the machine the CCV stopped working. But the Fire-I camera software continued working normally.

Googling for some advice to solve the problem i haven´t found any information about it… Sometimes people reinstalled the drivers, or installed patches for SP2 or SP3, but nothing has solved the problem here.

Finally we got in touch with Unibrain, explained the problem and they answered that Microsoft released the security update KB975560 in February/2010 which impacted DirectShow (used by AMCap and CCV) directly.
To solve the problem, we just needed to uninstall the security Update for Windows XP KB975560.

My MT applications! New App - Air Hockey

Hi, I recently posted a couple videos on Youtube of my table and the app’s I’ve made. Both the app’s were made just for my personal learning, but to my surprise I found NUI members already glancing upon it even when I only distributed it to friends and had it nudged between hundreds of other MT setups. Pleased with even the little bit of interest in it I’m happy to share what I’ve made so far (I owe it to you guys)!

I’ve been writing in C# with the XNA framework. For MT support I’ve used reacTIVision’s TUIO client. So these apps should work with TouchLib and tBeta if I’m not mistaken (I’ve been using tBeta). I’m new to all of them but I do have some previous programming experience. I didn’t see many others using this combo, but I’d recommend it for anyone looking further than AS3 but less than C++.

XNA Particle Engine

Description: This is my first app I’ve made, just a fun little particle engine. Ran quite smoothly on my setup!
Binary: Download
Source: Download

Description: This is a Whack-A-Mole game! It was a great learning experience for myself. The mallet works since I made a black circle on the head with a white dot in the center. This only works for DI setups.

A Gesture Recognition System

Description: I didn’t find many C# gesture libraries around the net and defiantly not any optimized for MT, so I went ahead and made my own! To create the gestures is very easy process, it’s just a number sequence. The numbers on the numpad represent the 8 way directions of what ever your drawing. For example, 96369 is the NUI logo, 9 is top-right, 6 is right, 3 is bottom-right. For the MT gestures such as the ‘X’, that took a little extra programming and are special cases. With this system however, it would not be ideal for a table with multiple people from all sides, because the gestures depend on what direction your facing. I’ll try and add this support in the future and get some smoother recognition too.

Description: A quick and simple Air Hockey game for MultiTouch surfaces. The lights are off only because the camera picks up some glare.
Requirements:
* TUIO Protocol (eg. tBeta) (If FLOSC is running turn it off)
* .NET Framework 3.5

Hey everyone,

I’ve finally been able to test my DI setup properly and post a video and some pics showing some apps in action.
I’ve called the screen ORION v2. It is 71x56cm (projection size) and about 60cm high.

I still need to build a better frame, and finish installing the amp/speakers.

Please let me know what you think.

(Sorry about the camera quality, it was going in and out of focus and it doesn’t like low-light environments )

*** EDIT ***

I was playing around with SketchUp and made a concept 3D model of the Orion MT display and added dimensions after.

My engineering friend is going to build me a proper frame soon, and I wanted to give him some idea of what I wanted. Plus it was really cool to make

It’s pretty basic, but let me know what you think…

Puddle of Life - A multitouch installation

[vimeo]5206660[/vimeo]

“Puddle of Life” is an educational multi-touch installation that was designed for Coimbra’s Science Museum (Darwin exhibit), demonstrating the theory of natural selection, as part of Darwin’s 200th anniversary.
The installation is composed of a round multi-touch table whose surface represents a virtual environment where 4 species of creatures live in. Each of these little creatures have different physical characteristics visually expressed by it’s quantity and/or size: Vision, Locomotion and Fur.

The player interacts with the game by touching the surface. He has to maintain full awareness of his creatures emotions (visually represented by a cartoon like ballon) and using this information to properly choose the mating partners on the control console. This console also allows the user to select the most appropriate descendent from 4 possible mutations, resulting from the reproduction.

The player’s objective is to help the species he controls achieve the highest number of creatures of its kind. Since this world suffers from climate change the player must assure that his creatures are well adapted to this ever-changing environment by choosing the best balance between mating partners and descendants.

The species move in a swarm, but they split when the predator is near. When a creature sees food it warns the nearby siblings and they all run towards it. Of course only the ones who have best locomotion reach it. The vision gives them the ability to see the predator sooner and the ability to see the food further ahead too. The fur is useful to them when the temperature is low but harmful when it’s hot, leading the creature to a shorter lifespan.
