It would be nice if we know the applications of multi-touch technology.
Please add what you think can be done using MT tables/screens etc.

Any general concept or ideas or application areas.....

Here are my two cents....

1- Manipulation of digital contents (digital photos etc.)
2- Zooming
3- Drag / Drop
4- MT usage in educational system (educational games)
5- Collaborative work in offices, meeting halls, exhibitions

Now its your turn..... Continue with number 6 .....

Ideas for the future of touchlib…

I thought it’d be interesting to start a brainstorm of possible features for future multi-touch development, and touchlib in particular. So i’ll start off with two features which would be really really sweet. Here’s what I want: I want to be able to take any number of video feeds from different webcams attached to the same pc and stitch them together before running touchlib on them to give me one large seemless touch sensitive region. Secondly, I want this display to be in any 2d shape I desire. So I project my image onto my curved and squiggly surface from below as usual and then, using my finger, I simply trace around the border of my display to create a custom shaped touch sensitive region. In a nutshell then, I think we should all strive for a framework which is extremely flexible and can be used to support multiple displays in multiple configurations. Also, since I’ve just built a nice shiney quad core pc, a version of Touch lib should be optimised as much as possible for multiple cores!

Anyway, that’s what i’m hoping santa brings for christmas, so I’ll try and give you a hand with the programming in a couple of weeks if i’m free. Does anyone else have any ideas or new features for touchlib?

opentouch on mac

Hi,
Hello to the community. I am new here and have started experimenting with multitouch. I am using mac. Had a couple of questions.
I have installed bbtouch for blob detection which works fine and sends out tuio packets aswell. I have a OSC server running listening on 3333 and 3000 for flash applications.
I was able to get only one application working using this set up. multikey keyboard.

Here are my questions.
1. How do I start developing applications using flash AS3 etc etc.
2. Where can I find more applications which run straight off.
3. I have some demos. But i get a compile error when i try to run them using command enter in flash. fla files.

Please do let me know. Thanks . looking fwd to work with you guys

Hi I am currently planning on building a multi touch LCD mointor. Now my monitor is pretty thin and 19” wide, and I want all the multi touch components inside the monitors case. What would be the easiest multi touch method for me to do that.

What exactly is a fiducial?

It seems like a silly question to me, but I’ve been having difficulty figuring out what a fiducial is. From what I’ve picked up, it seems like basically just a recognized object. Any information is appreciated.

Has anyone seen or used Stewart Reverse Projection Acrylic for their table surface? I saw it the other day and got curious. Also has anyone used synthetic substrates like Tyvek or Yupo to substitute trace paper or vellum.

New HP Touchsmart IQ500 Multitouch capable?

Hi everyone - long time lurker, first time poster!

Here’s something potentially interesting…
I’ve just been looking over the website for the upcoming HP Touchsmart IQ500 pc (very nice computer - I have the older first gen and I love it)
Here’s the site:
http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/touchsmart/index.html#/Overview/

Anyway - here’s the interesting bit, there’s a video you can watch that shows the features of the hardware and software here:
http://h30440.www3.hp.com/campaigns/touchsmart/IQ500_NA/Model.html
and towards the end of the video, it shows and specifically mentions two finger scrolling - onscreen. Kind of similar to how the Macbooks allow you to two finger scroll with the trackpad, but instead you use two fingers on the screen itself.

I wonder if this means that the new Touchsmart hardware is multitouch capable? It obviously can register two points if it knows you’ve got two fingers on screen. I’m sure there’s no other multitouch features built in to the software, but if the hardware is capable of two touches, then I wonder if it’s worth exploring/hacking with to see what is possible.
I was probably going to order one of these anyway, even before I saw that, but that’s sealed the deal! I want to see what’s possible.

As an aside, HP announced they were going to introduce Multitouch laptops well before Windows 7 with its multitouch came out - source:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/11/hp-says-to-expect-multi-touch-laptops-long-before-windows-7/
so I wonder if this is one of the early implementations of that - albeit with most of the multitouch not yet supported in software?

Update
It definately looks like it supports at least two finger multitouch - here’s another video on the site where they show zooming in and out with two fingers:
http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/touchsmart/index.html#/Learn/
(about 3/4 of the way through)

Richard.
