Mac OSX Multi-touch controls - VERY cool

I saw this video on vimeo recently. It showcases really cool uses of multi-touch within OS X such as coverflow, games, and window navigation control across multiple applications. Just wondering if anyone else knows about this or of any other existing app that allows multi-touch OSX control similar to TDesk for windows.

MT Device List

I would very much like to see a list of who’s got what by MT device type (FTIR, DI, DSI, LLP) and table or wall. It should be in a database view format sortable by the major fields like type, camera, size, level of completion, fps, etc. It would also have links to videos per table. This would make it easier to locate and take advantage of NUIGROUP expertise. If anybody is interested. Could cobble together a test site to do the above. I’ve got plenty of server room and bandwidth to get something like this started.

If you are interested, help by suggesting the data you would like to see.

Would be nice to set up a Code Mentoring Program. Share IM info, and get a little one on one help from someone that is better then you in Code. Maybe a half hour or so a day. Then as you grow you can pull someone up to. I think this could help a lot of people here.
POST your thoughts....

Peer Review for writing, code, projects, etc.

What do you guys think of having some sort of semi regular peer review sessions. The forum is great for getting fedback from lots of people, but exchanges are usually short in nature.

We could have a pool of submissions of some sort, and everyone who submits something for review promises to review one or two other persons submission. Much like the scientific peer review process. There is no need to get all formal about it, but getting someone to dedicate some time and thought to some feedback in exchange for doing it oneself can be a good way to get constructive feedback and make quality progress.

Given the great diversity of members the format for submission should probably be completly open, but one could give a little description of what specific aspects of ones work would like feedback about.

For those of us doing research and writing papers, valuable feedback can increase our chances of acceptance for selective conferences, journals etc. That could lead to higher visibility of nuigroup on a broader level in the tech comunity. Also given the amount of active members we could almost have our own little proceedings, with short submissions or works in progress...but maybe thats thinking a little far ahead

Just an idea...what do you guys think?

It is our duty to make the world a better place by sharing our knowledge and experience with others. I started this a basic mapping application… which will display the location of recent visits and keeps a history… I think this will give the community a good idea of their impact around the world and where we can find new areas to explore. Soon to follow will be a web based application to allow for a Regional User Group system to organize our efforts in creating the future. Read More: http://nuigroup.com/log/comments/go_green/

Next goal for the map is finding a better mapping solution such as google maps. Let me if you have any ideas or you run into any bugs.

If you see a place without green drive there and tell everyone there about NUI and lets take over the world!

Regular IRC Meetings

I think this idea has been tossed around for a while now, so I though I would post about it and see what other people think.

I(and many others) think it would be nice to have a structured regular IRC meetings, say once a week when most people are available. Here is how I think it should go. This is just my opinion, and I am open for feedback:

It should be open to anyone, admins and members with zero posts alike. To suggest a topic, maybe we could have a webpage where people can suggest topics, and they get up or down voted, like reddit and digg. Then we just pick the most popular on the given meeting given day, and once that meeting is over we remove it from the list. We could rotate several hours every week or something, to accommodate for different timezones. Also, we would post transcripts so other people could refer to them after its over.

Some people have suggested that we do Voice or Video, but I do not think this would work very well. Some of us have slow internet connections, no microphone/normal webcam, or lack of cross OS VOIP software. Another problem is we could not post transcripts after the fact.

Let me know what you think,

I am wondering if anyone has developed anything so that tables can interact with objects. You know like when you put a coffee cup or something. I’ve seen it before but is there anything opensource or available yet? Thanks!

I think we are in need of braking this dev into teams and I’m not the only one that thinks so. We can have teams of hardware, testers, software
We can even brake this down further. We can all work at a common goal at our own speed being that most of us here are doing this in our free time. Keep in mind that when this grows and it will this might need to be done.

Simple TUIO to Mouse Gestures

Hi
i have been reading in this forum for some time, interested in MultiTouch.
As Multi Touch is in earlie stadium, there are some cool demos of MultiTouch, but no real or not many useful MT Software.
I tried to collect them in this thread:
http://nuigroup.com/forums/viewthread/3015/
But to make some real use of this new technology i think we have to make MultiTouch acessable for nonMT-Software, using gestures.
I am not really into MT coding, i have just some basic C# and Java knowledge, but i could imagine, that there is:
A Server, that gets TUIO Messages and Gestures and translate them into mouse mouse clicks, mouse scrol or other user-defined actions like shortcuts.
As probably many products uses mouse scrolling for zooming in, like Google Earth, but many other products, i could be handy to have a general TUIO Translator that just make this.
I know in Java there is the Robot Class which could do this.
What do you think of it?
Nam
