I have finally found a compliant surface similar to the one used by han.  It is from the bottom of a DDR pad.  Here is a video of it in action:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yf4cCkVMoWI.  I am working on finding out what the actual material is from the manufacturer.  I will keep you posted.

Great! What DDR pad did you use? What manufacture? Are there any drawbacks?

hi build18er,
thanks for your reply…

is this the original dance pad ?
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild:DDR_Controllers.jpg
got the picture off the german wikipedia site.. looks like that clear material. Is this what you used?
Sorry, if I seem a bit pushy, but I really need to get a MT Porject done for my uni, and it would save me some time if I don´t have to pour the silcone myselfsmile

thanks

tim

Well the video looks quite promising. I’am pretty exited athough i’m curious what the exact name/ specification of the material is. I found this Amazon page where they sell original PS1/PS2 DDR pads. The URL is: HERE smile Can build18er confirm that the clear plastic on top of this pad is the stuff he used?
I will ask my local store if they have any DDR pads like this and try the top material if possible.
Thanks Ralph

if you would tell us what kind of ddr pad you exactly tried out we actually could search for it alltogether. smile

If you have any intention of playing Dance Dance Revolution for the PC, make sure you have one of these dance pads/mats!

thanks build18er!
this could be this one at amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com/Dance-dance-revolution-Ultramix-Slip/dp/B000IBTSNQ/ref=sr_1_19/002-7205800-0255263?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1178576912&sr=1-19
Wonder what part of the pad is translucent...? Probably one cannot see it on the picture.

...sadly I couldn’t find it in europe after a few minutes search. I will try out tomorrow another dance pad, maybe it will work too.

If i bought a DDR mat, would it be good to go as a complaint surface?  or does it have funny moldings on it or something like that? What size is it?

its like 3*3. you then need to cut the bottom away from the rest of the pad.

I found a European DDR-mat supplyer for the original. I pretty sure build18er used this one (please, correct me if I´m wrong).
Theyre fairly cheap too, 20 Euros! builde18er, could you please confirm, that this is the pad you used? I would like to order it an test
it on my setup asap.... thanks for your input!

Some good info here.  I just bought a Gamestop brand “Universal Dance Pad” and it does not work. It simply contains a standard foam type material.  Totally useless.  I’ll be checking out the Konami system next…

I think builder is using a specific non-slip version for the xbox, it’s the underside material.  So make sure it has that non-slip underside.
