Hi folks,
My name’s Grant Partridge, and I’m completing my Masters in Computer Science at the University of Manitoba under Dr. Pourang Irani.
For my thesis, I’ll be working with the tabletop computer we’ve built in the HCI Lab. We’re using a Polhemus 6DOF motion tracker for input and a ceiling mounted projector as a display. We’ve also built our own software called TT, which we developed in .NET for application prototyping. It does some cool stuff, like draggable, orientable, nestable widgets. I think it’s safe to say that we’ll make this code public when it’s less embarrassing. In the near future, I hope to integrate TUIO support, and, of course, there’s always performance issues to sort out
I’m particularly interested in designing musical instruments to support spontaneous musical relationships and group improvisation - if my grad committee’s hip enough, that’s what I’ll be doing for my thesis, but I fear they may want to see something more technical. Regardless, these forums are bound to be seriously useful for the work I’m doing, and I look forward to contributing to all the goings-on.
Nice to meet y’all,
-Grant
