Hey guys and girls,
I´m working on an FTIR right now for my final degree of my studies at university. I read already a lot about that popular fire-i camera. I watched through the details already on unibrain.com and read a lot of posts but I haven´t found any distributor in Germany yet. Does anybody has an idea, where to get that cam in Germany? Or where did you buy your fire-i cameras? Did you buy it directely at unibrain.com with all that shipping costs etc.? Is there a cheaper offer at another online store maybe? I watched already at ebay, but I haven´t found some except at the international website of ebay but then the cameras will be also sent from US.

So maybe you got some ideas, where I can get that camera the cheapest?
Another question with the same topic. Which of these fire-i cameras did you buy. I recognized that there are different. And which lens do I need to order for that fire-i camera, so that the IR-blobs will be possible to see?

orsys.de is their German distributor, I think. At least they’re selling their cameras and related products. I assume Apple does not sell the black/white version of the Fire-i, which is better suited to blob tracking.

Edit: It’s 130 Euros + 15 or so for shipping.

Thanks guys! I will try it at orsys.de. I hope they can help me further. Concerning the lens, why did you choose a fisheye lens, Sandor? Doesn´t it distort the blob detecting?

Richard,

it is a question if you are having room enough in your box to place the camera properly so that you can “see” the whole screen… Another way is to use a mirror to widen the FOV. Concerning the fisheye: there is a nice “barrel distorsion filter” for touchlib to compensate the wide-angle distorsion… Just check out both options - but if your box is big enoug: just go with the regular lens…

Hey again,
concerning the lens again. I haven´t seen the settings for that “barrel distorsion filter”. Do I need to install that filter/plugin first? Or where I can find it at the touchlib?
Whats about the lens option “IR Filter Coating” at the pruducts of Unibrain. I need a lens with NO IR filter coating, right? That IR filter coating ist the IR blocking of a lens, isn´t it? Sorry, I´m new. smile

Thanks. Richard

Richard,

check out this thread for the filter. The’s a download link. Instrucktions are in the zip-file.

http://nuigroup.com/forums/viewthread/2304/

For the fire-i: as i allready wrote, i got my fire-i from the apple store (the next day after i placed my orde BTW) and the lens from a different supplyer. But yes, far as i know you will need a lens without IR-Coating - check out the http://www.unibrain.com site for details on lenses…

Hope this helps - and no prob: if i can help, i’ll do wink But i’m also a newbie…

Cheers,

Sandor
