I know, this may sound a little exigent, but I got just a few options to choose here in Cancun, MX. So I need your help and experience to choose the right projector between this units:

BenQ MP611C

Sony VPL-EX4

Epson PowerLite 83C

BenQ MP622C

Epson PowerLite S5+

Sony VPL-ES4

Sony VPL-EX5

Sony VPL-ES5

Sharp XR10S

Optoma TS400

I want to be able to use it for FTIR and DI units (am planning to built both), so please feel free to comment about the differences and posible experiences with this units.

Thanks in advance!

PD Sorry about my poor english!

The thing with picking the right projector is that it takes not only time but also money. Specs can say a lot about the projector you want to choose but in the end it all depends on what budget you have, what quality you want. in case of multi-touch you want one with a decent short throw, check that as well.

The other thing is, you posted some links and expect people to browse through all of them and then give you feedback. Instead you could also sum up the important specs and then let the people here look at it. Less clicking they need to make, the more reply you might get. Also if you have compare the specs of them you can probably narrow down the list to 3 or 4 projectors.

I only want to take in count the preferences related to MT proyects, not the budget. This list is already narrowed thinking in money.

Different ways to see it… =P

The links are just a refference to the model, also I try to let everyone to check the specs and place the preferences at their own judgement. That could be a guide for me.

Thanks for your comment, I’ll be trying to decide which one to buy this afternoon.

Cheers!

Hey Probo, i quickly went over the specs of the items and i’d probably go with the benq MP622c…

But Hype! is right you should have put the basic specs down in your post such as resolution, lumens, throw ratio.

OK!

Thank you Taha! The BenQ 622c is one of my favorites, the others are the BenQ 611c and the Sony VPL-ES4

Cheers!

The main reason i wouldnt go for the BenQ 611c is because its native resolution is 800x600, the higher the native resolution the better. especially if you will be reading small text. such as windows icons, its the same thing for the sony Sony VPL-ES4.

Some people dont mind the low res… but personally i prefer the crisp nature of a higher resolution. so it choice, i suggest you go look at the picture quality of each projector before purchasing them.

Bear in mind that people here in the forums have reported that DLP projectors tend to emit less IR than LCD, which is always a good thing.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I finally bought the Epson PowerLite 5S+, and I choose it because 3 things: almost the same caracteristics than the rest of its kind, customers support in town and the price! It was a special offer that I can’t refuse (about $600USD, final price). Tomorrow I’ll be testing it at daylight with the IR iluminators and the moded webcam. I’ll post you how it works.

Cheers!

I am building my own projector.  I think that is the far best option.  I get a bulb life of about 10000 hours, XGA Resolution, and a 1:1.5 throw ratio.  Only con is the thing is kinda big, but oh well.

Oh, and my bulbs are $50, not $400smile

Hi Chris!

Well… the projector seems to be a very good candidate for this tasks (bright enough, medium/short throw) and because I have built a DI unit, the daylight testings are not as good as you may want. The same projector will be used to my next unit, a LLP one smile

I have recorded some vids that I’ll be sharing soon.

That sounds great Alex!

I think, if you could built even the projector, then your setup could be very flexible… I mean, you easily could place a filter and control IR light emited from the projector for example smile

Also make sure to test out the projection tools: http://tools.nuigroup.com/

Might give you a good idea of the angles and dimensions different projectors offer.

Thanks Probo!  I never though of that.  That could be very useful, come to think of it.

Wow, thanks nuiman!  Those tools are awsome.  That flash projector calculator is sick!  You just saved me hours of time toiling on graph paper working this out!

There is a whole community of people building there own projectors.  If anyone is interested check out the LumenLab forums.

If emitting IR light from your projector is a concern, consider getting a hot mirror and placing that in front of your projector. A hot mirror will reflect IR, but allow visible light to pass.
