Howdy guys! a complete newbie here to the whole MT thing, but i have a question.
I have a project that i’ve been asked to try and put together for a work collegue of mine, but there’s a few criteria that i need to address..
Is it possible to have a really slimline box when its finished?? what i’m after doing is making something about a metre and a half wide by just under a metre to the back.. but it has to be slanted, and it has to be able to be desk mounted.. (so you can get your legs under it).. and i also need it to run with minimal light spill too..
Is this at all possible?? can anyone thing of a way to do it?

My original idea was to use two projectors one for each half and just have a single camera on a fisheye lense to catch the whole surface… would that work?

Well you can use 2 mirrors to reduce the height of your setup, i’ve my setup has a height of 65cm, and my screen size is 80cmx60cm thats after using 2 mirrors. But my projector is old if you use a good short throw projector, you could get the size you are looking for. i would check out the 3M DMS700 thats a good short throw projector, there are various others....

You could do two projectors, but mirrors work just as well.  They keep the cost down and would probably decrease latency in processing.

I am more then willing to to test your Multi-Touch programs on Linux, PM me if you have something.  If you’re looking for something faster then AS3 and Easier then C, try Python!

hmm.. that might work… was also thinking lastnight about one long mirror with the projector setup on the image bias.. but the problem i suppose then would be where to put the cameras in such a shallow enclosure to ensure maximum coverage for minimum height..
Can you get away with two cameras?? would that work? or would we then be looking at silly amounts of coding to be able to get them to work properly?

well touchlib doesnt support 2 camera you create a new filter which capture images from both cameras and stitches them together, its quite possible… not a lot of code but you’ll need to know what you are doing.

you can use the camera over the mirror as well. The camera can see the light from the just as the projector can project it onto the screen. The only thing is that you would have to make sure it was calibrated as I think there would be a bit of distortion with the mirror angle.
