Hey nuigroupies,
I received my projector from amazon today.  I got an Optoma hd70 projector and I thought I would share my findings.  First off, this projector gives off virtually no IR light according to my webcam.  For my cam I’m just using two layers of black photonegative.  The contrast is really great on this thing and it looked sharp even with the lights on.  It’s native 1280x720, 1000 lumens, and 4000:1 contrast.  I got it for around $950 on amazon plus there is a $200 rebate going right now.  I’ve attached some pics taken from my crap camera phone (it looks better in person)

Are you using a regular mirror? Are you noticing any ghosting or double projection of the image? Wondering if that ends up being a problem....

I notice a very tiny amount of ghosting in the projected image.  For a prototype setup, it’s nothing that gets in the way of testing.  I am using a regular mirror.  For my final setup I’m going to strip the gray backing off the mirror and use the opposite side, like a DIY first surface mirror.

Hey Mike, on the topic of your protoype… can you give me (us) the 5 second rundown of what you did to prepare the screen… and where the camera was placed (and what kind of mods you had to do to that. I already have a digital projector and webcam at my disposal… so, it looks like the only think I’m missing is a screen - and the modified camera.

Hi everyone!

I just wonder how the hd70 works in daylight situations? Has anyone tried that?
I recognized in the specs that the projector only has about 1000 ansi lumens. Sounds like the image might not be bright enough for daylight situations?

Never used it in daylight, but I frequently use it in a room that’s lit brightly with fluorescent light and it looks fine.  This is on a gray rear projection screen.
