I just powered on my Aixiz lasers. For the impatient of you, it was a FAIL
For those of you that want to read on, read on:
I had the same problem that Helza1 had. Out of the two lasers I tried neither one would turn on. I tried it both ways to make sure, nothing either way. I am going to call them tomorrow and see whats up. For powering it I used a little circuit I dashed out with an LM317-T, 220 Ohm resistor, a 5k Pot, and some capacitors I had laying around. It provides 3.2 Volts, and was able to drive a small DC motor, so I know(or am at least darn sure) that that is not the problem.
It sucks to hear that you’re having the same result as me :(
I’ve asked for information on how to return them, but they wanted to call me, so now i’m waiting for a phonecall :(
Did you also buy the 25mw 780nm lasers?
I think that someone posting here bought 10mw which did work, so i don’t think they’re unreliable, maybe just defect 25mw lasers? (i hope so)
i would like to know if the lasers from this site is suitable for LLP? As this shop is locally available to me i would like to refrain myself from getting from overseas.
I, too, ordered a set of 4 10 mW lasers. They haven’t arrived yet, but I’m expecting them to arrive today or tomorrow (ordered them last Monday).
I emailed the Axisz (or however you spell it ;P) folks to ask them about the power supply...they said that there is a board in the laser that regulates the amount of amps it is getting automatically...the only requirement is 3.2V, and I believe each laser needs a minimum of 50 mA (don’t quote me on that, tho). We’ve got a variable-voltage adapter from Radioshack that puts out 1 amp that we’re going to hook up to a few of them wired in parallel to see how that works out. I’ll let you guys know how it goes!
Got my lasers from Aixiz today and they have an adjustment screw on the back, the lable indicates in the check boxes that they are 780nm 10mw but I am qurious what the “adjustment” is for.
If someone would be willing to take apart their Aixiz lasers (preferably a broaken one so you don’t have to worry about killing your working ones) and take some detailed pictures of the driver circuit and laser diode it may help to shed some light on the problems people are having, and what needs be done to power the modules properly.
rOger, could you post the specs listed for both the Aixiz power supplies and those you got at the store?
I also received red line lasers today that I ordered from dealextreme. I hooked them up to a 3v psu and they worked just fine. However when I hooked up the 780’s from Aixiz it was a no go. WTF? Please give specs and or pics of working power supply!
EDIT:
Ok I decided to experiment with one of my Aixiz lasers......
Cranked up the voltage on my “adjustable voltage wall wart” to 3.3 and nothing. Then I tried 4.5v and they all worked fine!!!! so why the 3.2v specs? Beats me. So if you are willing, give it a try. I am going to hook one up overnite and see how she burns, I will report on my test in the morning. Hope this helps!

Interesting, I might give that a go, as i have an adjustable power supply
They’re dead in the water anyway until i get them exchanged
