hi guys,

can anyone out there help me out on connecting my ptgrey dragonfly express to touchlib(alexp’s code)? i posted at the camera forum and no one is responding so i thought i post it here.

i installed the flystream drivers, uninstalled CMU drivers and ran the configapp.exe on alexp’s binaries(using his config.xml also).. but i got the capture device not found error message. and one more thing, after i installed the flystream drivers, the amcap that came with the drivers can’t detect the camera as well. however, if i use the flycapture drivers, it worked without a glitch. from what i understand, if i use flystream drivers, i would have to use the DSVL syntax in the config.xml, right?

anyone pls help as i’m kinda urgent as i need to show my prof a working prototype.

thanks

Hey icube,

Make sure you removed all of the CMU dirvers, including the Firewire one. They replace default Microsoft’s firewire driver with their own.
After you’ve done this reinstall camera’s DirectShow drivers. If the camera shows in AmCap, you are good to go.

I can’t get the Firefly to work at all with AmCap, we’ve tried various things.  We got it working vaguely on OSX, but nothing on Vista.  We were tempted to go back to XP, should we?

Edit:  Do we need to download the drivers from the Point Grey site?  The disc seems buggered. smile

Going back to XP would be the last resort, but its worth a try. I think that CMU drivers really mess things up.
I remember I did the same thing with my Firefly MV, but it was somewhat easier the get it back running (I was using XP). Maybe on Vista this is trickier.
Keep us posted with your progress.

Hello.  Are you using the drivers from the disc that came with the SDK, or drivers from an external source?  We are ready to install the cam, which means almost ready to show our newest table.  Three days trying to get the cam to work… :s

Also, we are not using the card tha came with the SDK because, as far as I can tell, it’s a Firewire card.  I have firewire ports everywhere, so I din’t bother.  Should we?

I didn’t use the firewire PCI card either. My motherboard has a firewire port. As far as drivers, I used the DirectShow driver that came with the camera on the CD. Once you are able to open it as a DS capture device, you’re set.

Hey Alex,

I was wondering if you could briefly go over calibrating the ROI feature of the FireFly, I’m having dificulty understanding how the offset works. Everytime I try and Format 7 in my own coordinates I always get a very small percentage of the actual screen, for example, the top right corner and the touches are offset. I would love to get this format calibrated, the 120fps is incredible!

Hey, guys,
my firefly MV B/W worked but i can not set up frame rate in touchlib, i installed flystream driver1.0a12 and manual scanned the WinXP SP2 system, WinXP found the hardware and install the driver, in AMCAP.exe i could adjust the frame rate up to 60FPS, but seems it didn’t works for touchlib, do you guys know how to adjust the frame rate in touchlib? my frame rate in touchlib shows 15FPS, thanks!

I believe the only way is to use the ROI feature of the camera. When I punch in some numbers there the framerate jumps to ~110fps. I’m having some difficulty adjusting it to the correct settings. Will let you know if I can get it right.

The way ROI works is that it creates a ‘window’ within the full area of the CCD (752x480).
So for example if you want to capture frames at 320x240, you would set the width=320 and height=240.
Now, this results in captured frames of the right resolution, but the ROI origin is still at (0,0).
This means that the 320x240 window within the full 752x480 is positioned at (0,0) (top left corner).
So we must move it so that is centered within the full 752x480 camera resolution.
Therefore the new origin is:

X=(752-320)/2=216
Y=(480-240)/2=120

This goes for any other resolution you might chose.
Hope this answer your question.

Anyone here have problems running the Firefly’s FlyStream on Windows XP SP3?  I have given up installing it on Vista coz it just won’t work but when I downgrade to XP it still doesn’t install!  I know for a fact it works on SP2 but anyone here tried it with SP3?  Am i missing something?

So wait, and please forgive my ignorance if I’m wrong, but the touch screen in the movies that were posted was created with only two lasers, as opposed to using a ton of LED’s?

Thanks for the reply Alex.

I punched in these numbers, and after reducing the size my of screen I was able to fit it all into the 320x240 capture size. The distance from by FireFly to the screen is now about 6 feet.

In order to fit in a screen as large as yours, is your camera very far away? Or are you able to trick this by using a 150 degree fish eye lens to fit it all in there?
