hey guys
I’ve set up my multi touch screen with my IR leds - I’m using LD271 (spec here).  My problem is when I use a web cam to view the set-up I can’t see the leds illuminating the screen so hence I cant check for blobs.  The leds are quite bright but their beam is quite straight.  So if I look at them with my web cam on their side profile they don’t show up.  At the moment I don’t have an IR pass filter for my web cam (It’s coming tomorrow!) - does this make a difference?  I can see the Led’s pretty clearly on my web cam when I’ve plugged the circuit in.  At the moment I’m just using a sheet of clear perspex.  Am I doing something wrong?
Cheers
Charlie

have you polished the edges of your plastic? if its white or milky white, then the light will just bounce off the edge instead of going inside.

yeah i got the edges laser cut so they’re nice and shiny
I think it might be the Leds -they might not be bright enough to illuminate the surface

Have you removed the IR filter from the webcamera lens?

I have indeed
I’ve decided I dont have the timeframe to build so I’ve ordered one from Harry
I’m off to program smile
I’m using vvvv to do blob detection and tracking and then sending this info to processing via OSC
I’ll post my code up when I have it done smile

Argh… you just described my worst nightmare with my project - what if I build it all, and it doesn’t work? I pray that everything goes smoothly though.

Hey charlie, if you don’t mind me asking, can you shoot a PM of your kit details and price from Harry? I’m just curious because I’m getting kinda aggravated about cost, time, and labor.

Thanks.
