Hi,

I have been gearing up to build a table and have been in a quandry over going DI or FTIR.

Anyway, for controlling ambient ir interferring with FTIR, has anyone tried using 3m Scotchtint?  It blocks IR while allowing for visible light to pass.  It would not work for DI, but I think it could work for FTIR as a top layer.

perhaps as

Yes that might work to block ambient IR light.

If the 3m works with the silicone rubber, else you could try the 3m on top of the projection screen.

acrylic

their website says it blocks 99% UV light, but where does it say it block IR?

The marketing stuff doesn’t mention IR - it refers to reducing heat.

However - http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/5523877-description.html

This talks about reducing near infra-red (for the purpose of reducing heat).

Ooops

I may be wrong about the scotchtint.  It looks like I got it mixed up with Scotchtintâ„¢ Night Vision Window Film.  It blocks some IR, but is tinted, so it may not work well.

Could still be worth testing, however.
