BTW, regular glass is not good for FTIR because it does not transmit IR very well.

The other advantage of LED projectors is that they don’t put out as much IR light, so your chances of getting spillover on your IR camera are lessened.. Maybe you could even use a less strict filter.

That’s cool about the IR LED’s.. I ‘d really like to have some of those.

but i’ll definitely get back to this topic in the next few days…

and now the really stunning part:

the technical university of munich here in germany (architectural science) developed some new method to make glas blur just by putting a certain voltage on a special layer that can be integrated in most kinds glas windows. just imagine: have a standard plexiglas-like table that suddenly turns into a diffusing surface on which a projector can put its image on. these special windows for large buildings facades are mainly developed here near munich. i know some of the students who try to change these windows into ftir-like tables. the idea of just suddenly generating a surface on which a projector can put its image on, is really interesting. i will let you know as soon as can get hands on one of these special windows.

This sounds much like the idea MS used for their touchlight demos. In one of the videos they bring up that the Holoscreen developed by DNP is just like the types used in some store fronts. video: http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=19174

Also an explanation of the behavior and benefits of this screen can be found here: http://research.microsoft.com/~awilson/papers/ICMI%202004%20TouchLight.pdf

I don’t know how DNP makes their screens (just know they are very expensive) and it very well could be a different process, but the end result would seem to be similar.

Have you had a look at Microvision’s PicoP projector yet?  It’s still only a prototype, but it’s about as big as an Andes Mint, and 20 lumens per pixel. It’s measured by pixel because it uses red, green, and blue lasers on a MEMS mirror to scan the image onto the surface.  It has infinite focus, too.  They use a frequency doubling crystal for the green, but I have an inside source who says that there’s only 2% bleed-through of IR, and they think they can get it even lower.  And the power consumption is low enough to be run off a cellphone battery (cellphone users are one of their target audiences).

Just checked out their web site and they have some very interesting products.

Kitten: Any ideas if and when they are planning on releasing the projector?

Just thought of a bad side effect! Not only do we get everyones music but now also the videos on the train windows smile

The Phillips projector?  It’s crap.  It’ll cost more, drain more power, run hotter, be bigger, and people who have seen the prototype say it makes an annoying buzzing noise.  I’m less than impressed.

Hi all

Too bad tonius disappeared. I’d have been interested in the small Samsung projector and in its performances. And now even more since the new model is out (SP-P310ME) and its brightness is doubled from 25 to 50. So if it was good with 25, it should be very good with 50.
Does any other of you have used this proj.?

Just on side-note. If one wants to use a mirror what should be the ratio compared to acrylic size?

Thanks,
Greg
