Hi All,

After having someone try to use our screen with quick scribble-like
gestures - and the poor webcam not able to keep up - I just broke down
and ordered a Point Grey Research Dragonfly2 developer kit:
http://www.ptgrey.com/products/dragonfly2/index.asp
Firewire, 640x480 CCD, 60fps, black&white. I’m hoping to have it on my
desk early next week.  Approximately US $900 with taxes and shipping.
We are going to revamp our set up next week to incorporate the new
camera and finally coproject (in stereo 3D).

On a separate note, next Tuesday we’ve got an invite from Prof. Sheelagh
Carpendale at the University of Calgary to visit her “Innovis” lab:

They are currently using tabletop SmartBoards but are interested in
building a multi-touch system.  Wouldn’t surprise me if they join in the
software development effort.

Cheers,
Darran.

Darran, I thought the web can was 60fps?

BTW, why a DF2?  Why not a DF Express, which can go much faster if
you need it?  Or a B&W Firefly MV, which is much cheaper (hmmm, do
they make a pure B&W one?).

Sheelagh does good stuff; tell her hi from Georgia Tech, she know
some of us (although she doesn’t know me well).

David says he’s getting 60fps out of his; mine though is a measly
320x240 at 30fps.

I thought about the DF Express but went with the DF2 as it suits our
immediate needs - my development machine (a Dell M90 laptop) doesn’t
have Firewire800.  I didn’t even get a price on the DF Express; I just
assumed it was significantly more expensive.  Do you happen to know how
much it costs?

Will do.

Cheers,
Darran.

It costs about the same as the DF2, the last time I checked (I am
pretty sure).

You can get a FW800 PCMCIA card pretty cheap.

You should check it out.  It probably suits your needs better in the
long run.

We are also looking at this camera. How is your treating you? I’m also trying to find a “proper” Visible light filter because using a color negative feels so cheap. We have a working prototype with a $50 webcam, so now we are going to go for a bigger one with real components. What are you using to filter out everything but IR?

Darran and Blair MacIntyre are not in this forum as far as I know, i just copy pasted their posts of their mailing into this forum
I myself use photonegatives, but you could also use a IR pass filter or an IR band pass filter, I believer there are different topics about this on this forum
