may be a software can handle only 2 touches. previous versions of touchlib also used only 2 touches for scale and rotation.
there is a dell presentation video where you could see a direct input from touch screen. there was 5 blobs from all fingers.

found that video:

Wow.  They really need a UI designer.  That’s got to be the crappiest multitouch interface I’ve ever seen.

There’s no respect for where you are doing the gestures.  You might as well hit Ctrl-+ to zoom.

Christopher@:
I have tried nextwindow screen on CeBIT 2008. They use 2 cameras build in a screen frame. This has a limitation. At some positions it can’t correctly recognize touch positions.

I have mailed n-trig if it is possible to buy this digitizer from them. The answer was: they don’t sell to individual persons, only notebooks from partners. I also said that I want to support N-trig digitizer in my multitouch framework, but got no answer. Not very friendly company. realy sad :(

Here’s another video showing the N-Trig capacitive touch in a Dell xt Tablet.  After the multi-touch patch come August this will be the first multi-touch tablet.  The video also show gestures built into the programing to allow flicking the pages and scrolling with only one finger now but come August it will allow two finger gestures.

Daniel good job emailing the N-trig rep its too bad the didn’t respond with more enthusiasm. If n-trig and Dell release the framework this would be a great device to test multi-touch applications.

Dell has released a new driver and firmware to make it’s XT multitouch. The software is realy bad :( But I think it is possible to get raw touches from digitizer and use it for our programs.
Anyone want to sponsor me one XT? :D

I just purchased a Dell Latitude XT on clearance $960 after tax!

I’m trying to figure out how to use Touchlib with my tablet… I’ve tried contacting N-trig regarding any type of SDK or source and so far no reply…

And yes I agree, the N-trig software is horrible.

Is this is the beginning of the end of FTIR/DI/LLP/Camera era with these new multitouch screens? I believe its a matter of time when these multitouch screen panels will hit the market where you will have no need for FTIR/DI/LLP Camera solutions anymore?

http://www.nextwindow.com/applications/index.html

Next windows white paper shows that they are only capable of two touches at the moment but their ongoing development is going to support more than that, meaning all fingers etc. WhitePaper

What do you guys think?

Thats not true ntrig screen overlays firstly wont be able to use fiducial markers, and i srsly doubt ntrig will ever bring out a screen overlay for 30” or 40” screen, yeah maybe up to 20”, but never the size of a Table.... A screen that size will be useful to the individual consumer, where it will have multitouch capabilities but wont be suitable for multiuser applications and scenarios.

It seems to me that everyone releasing MT screens has one common flaw, ZERO THOUGHT PROCESS.  Every app looks the same, every demo is the same, everything I’ve seen is ugly.  Even the iPhone (which is great) has an ugly U.I.  None of these people are really thinking about how MT can really help, all they do is reinvent the same useless ‘drag pictures around’ apps.

I’m getting angry now. smile
