I applied the Toluene solution to my plexi yesterday afternoon…
I found that the easiest way to get rid of air bubbles was to blow at them. Not to hard or you create more but a burst just enough to spread them out and pop them. Unfortunately blowing out put me in the predicament of having to suck air in to my empty lungs right over my big puddle of Toluene. I’ve never gotten high from huffing before… It resulted in a small headache and a captain jack sparrow equilibrium that lasted for a few hours.
Anyway, I think my layer is to thin. I went a little over thin on creating my mixture so that i wouldn’t have the spreading problems some people have run into. Because of that a lot of the solution leaked out around the edges that I had constructed from “foam core.”
Now I have a very very thin coating over the entire surface… Do you think that will be enough? I’m not even sure its up to the 7/1000 of an inch proposed by Christopher. I’m sure it wouldn’t be removable in a large sheet like I saw in that one video. It so thin it simply makes the plexi feel just a little rubbery.
Maybe I’ll add more this afternoon after finding a better way to prevent run off.
