Hello again, guys! My question is this: Can I build and sell MultiTouch Tables with an Linux OS? In specific terms, can I charge customers just for the Table and give them an option to have me install a Linux Distro on it free of charge?

Well as soon as you don’t break any EULA and use only OpenSource software sure… But I hardly think that everything you use is under a free license…

You could offer this as an optional sevice which in turn would let you install and compile the OS and its counterparts

I’ve thought about that, but I just don’t think people would want “just” a multitouch table. They would most likely want some sort of OS on it, you know. Imagine buying a multitouch table with no OS and no experience in setting one up. (most of the people are very ignorant when it comes to computers, even teenagers, no offense to those who do know, you guys are the best!).

the problem is not what service you propose, it is what software you will install…

Alright, for starters, I plan to use an Ubuntu 10.x distro with compiz and freewins plugins. Likewise, it will be a stripped-down distro, and I’ll make sure that all software that goes in it is open-source (like OpenOffice). Can I include that type of OS with my MT table free of charge? The price will only include hardware costs.

The ps3 eye driver for windows (AlexP) isn’t free. How about the ov534/ov772x gspca driver for Linux?

So keep in mind that all your tables have 2 years guarantee!
and a question? Why only free software? if you have to pay for a license your customer had to pay for that! so you can use other software, too?
or i´m wrong?

Nah, you’re right. It’s just that I don’t have much starting capital, so free software will have to suffice for the beginning.
