my idea is to use multiple cameras to track fingers from the side and the top, giving X,Y coordinates for the location of the finger. then, you use those X,Y coordinates to map to the computer screen. if we use IR, then we don’t have to worry about the projector giving false readings, and if we have an IR light focused on the fingertips it would give more accurate readings. detecting the points of bright light and matching them between the two cameras would be a huge task in the way of programming, but it would be easy to take parts of tbeta and incorporate it into the program.

anyone interested?

This technique has been done and it’s not capable of full multitouch since you will have problems with occlusion where one finger/hand blocks another finger/hand from the view of the camera.

but that problem could be resolved with a third camera. I think the idea of using X,Y coordinates is a good one and could be explored further.
