Major Keystoning Problem!!!

After receiving some very helpful answers on these posts here and here, I decided to go ahead and buy a projector and assemble a box (for which I used an Ikea cabinet).  As you have probably guessed from the title, I am having some very problematic keystoning problems. My projector can correct keystoning up to +/- 30 degrees, but even that isn’t enough, as you can see from the attached photos, in which keystoning correction was set as far as it could go.  I have also included a photo of my setup without the screen.  By the way the screen isn’t as transparent as it seems in the photos. I need your help desperately.  How can I fix this?!? Thank you!

I saw this: http://www.vioso.com/de/smartprojecting/

I can’t test it since I have a mac, but it looks like in the video you can correct keystoning.

Also, you might want to rearrange your mirror/projector and see if that helps.

Thanks for your fast reply!  Does the Vioso software change the entire computer output, or can it only correct the keystone of the application? ie Can I use its correction feature only when I am using its Presenter application?
I have tried fooling around with the mirror/projector setup with no avail.  What angles of the projector and mirror would I be aiming for to reduce keystoning?
Thanks for all of your help!

I’m not really sure how exactly the software works, since its not mac-compatable. But it is a free download, so I don’t think it can hurt trying smile
Have you tried moving the projector 90 degrees, so that it faces the bigger side of your box? Thats the only think I can think of, since most projectors naturally output a landscape image (unlike your setup, where you have your projector outputting a portrait image).

no, neither VIOSO nor any other keystone correction i tested (except the nvidia tool) will help to correct GLOBAL keystoning. only the application and its window will be corrected… not the OS itself. therefore the signal must be corrected direcly from the video card.... AFAIK there is no (cheap) solution for this excpt re-positioning your projector / mirror.

well ther are 2 solutions one is display lite 2 the other is nthusim
display lite http://fly.elise-ng.net/index.php/immersivedisplaylite2
nthusim http://nthusim.com/ they both warp the screen but only for directx or open gl i use it for mt4j any flash or new ie 9 and it warps the ccv program then warps the content to the same . They can both do multiple screens and have edge blending.
Hope this help

Thank you all for so many great respones!
@duckdude555:Rotating the projector 90 degrees gives me less distance to project and hence a smaller image than I would desire.

you can also download demos of both systems from the web site one is more expesive but i like it the dispaly lite is only about 40 eruo the nthusim is about 500usd i have both and like them the same but the display lite has more options. i find it a great help for warping and image manipulation. If you use 2 projectors there are a few tricks to make edge blending a little quicker and easier. here is a video of me using it to keystone 1 projector using nthusim http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3XAaPaxIVQ

I’m planning on using mainly PyMT, so would display lite 2 or nthusim work in that case?

Does the projector you purchased support keystone correction on both vertical and horizontal?  The main problem I see is that your projecting your video “sideways”.

Have you tried placing a ruler against a wall and taking some throw ratio/height off-set measurements?  I do this with every projector I purchase despite them all being the same model.  Each can have a slight variance.

With these measurements, you can create a paper model of your projection, fold it to get a flat/keystone correct image on your surface and then build your projector and mirror mounts to match the angles required by your paper model.

It is also worth mentioning that most projectors only keystone correct vertically (the sides of the trapezoid).  This means that you should be modeling the side view of the projection cone.

Hope this helps!  Unfortnately, the_goat might be right about needing a different box.

The horizontal skewing of the image was due to a rushed setup for the photo.  With some careful time, that will be no problem.  I will try your paper idea; could you describe it in a little more detail please?  Thank you so much

Update:  I have bought the camera and lens/filter, and I am awaiting delivery of the illuminators; as far as I can tell this is the only problem I have left.  Help would be greatly appreciated!

Wish I could help, but I have not tackled any projection setups yet. Have you explored the idea of two mirrors fully? Perhaps somehow shooting the projector down, and bounce it twice...?
