@Splash, we need the latest CCV to be able to run in Windows 8 and then an updated PS3 Eye driver also. The driver posted at the beginning of this thread is only to prove that DIY multitouch will work.
Something to get us through until everything else catches up! wink

Completely missed this post btw… sorry bout that grin

Interestingly this driver is not working for me.

Fresh install of windows 8.  Install QT, VC+redist. Install the 3.0 driver and plug in the PS3 and “No camera detected” when I run the eye test utility.

In device manager I’m seeing one unidentified device and one Microphone (USB Camera 4.0.x.x.x)…

I unplug the camera and both ! devices go away.

It’s a dual boot system with windows 7 and that side works fine of course.

@Ultimoose, not sure with that one… I didn’t dual boot I installed Windows 8 on a Dell laptop and on a separate HDD in my multitouch table.
Both installed OK and both ran the drivers+CCV without any problems.

I’m assuming you have USB 2.0 ports on your machine with the correct video drivers installed on your machine? I know I had issues with these two not making my PS3 camera work in my early multitouch days.

Not sure if this was what was meant by the original post but this is how I got it to work:

1) Install the latest PS3 drivers
2) Go into device manager and click on the ps3 eye camera device itself (ignore microphone and other things) and uninstall JUST the ps3 eye driver
3) Reboot
4) Install the older driver by AlexP this thread talks about (forget if I ran this in Windows 7 compatibility or not - don’t think so)

After that it finally worked.  If I completely uninstalled the first driver via Uninstall Programs I kept getting errors in device manager on the ps3 eye device itself

@alderez, yes that’s exactly how I got mine to work as well.. Your step 1 was my step 1 before I knew the newer PS3 Eye drivers wouldn’t work.
Thanks for making that clearer too! wink

Cool, I’ll try that when I get home tonight, installing the new drivers and then uninstall just the PS3 device in device manager and then installing the older drivers.

On my first install of win8 I did this -

0 - started with a new w8 install.
1 - Installed latest CL Eye driver and requisites (QT, VC dll’s).
2 - Installed CCV - Didn’t work
3 - Googled
4 - Uninstalled CL Eye driver through add/remove
5 - Rebooted
6 - Installed older CL Eye driver
7 - No workie.

Decided to start fresh since I had nothing invested in this installation of W8 except the 10 minutes it took to install it.

1 - Installed win8
2 - Installed older driver and requisites.
3 - Didn’t work.
4 - Rebooted.
5 - Didn’t work.
6 - Moved on, i.e. came here. smile

It would be cool if I can get win8 and my frickin’ lazers (on the truck now for delivery) working at the same time. smile

I was originally using Win8 64 before I figured out the driver uninstall-re-install method (but by the time I figured it out I had already moved to 32bit just in case that was the problem).

Haven’t tested on 64bit

I’ve gotten it working on win8 x64.  These are the steps I ended up doing which may or may not all be necessary it’s just the order I ended up doing -

Installed win8 x64.

Installed QT.

Installed 2005 vc redistributable.

Installed 3.xxxx9 driver

Didn’t work - please insert ps3 camera

Rebooted

Didn’t work.

Installed cl4.x driver which reported it was removing/updating the existing driver.

Plugged in the camera.

Didn’t work (duh)

Went to device manager and found the new ‘microphone’ device and right click - Uninstall

Unplugged the camera.

Installed the 3.xxxx9 driver

Plugged in the camera.

Eye test now works. Yay!

That’s as far as I got, I had to take my table to the workshop (aka the garage) to route pockets for my new lasers and cut my acrylic.  Well I did see the awesomeness of laser blobs, even unfocused they were like little suns in the camera when I stuck my fingers through the plane.

I ran ccv 1.3 after installing the new driver (CL-Eye-Driver-4.0.2.1017), and it works fine for me.  It seems the problem is with the camera viewing eye-test app from code laboratories (it crashes) and W8, not the driver.  I also do not have a problem running ccv 1.4.

I’m running two ps3 cameras.
