Updates *3-02-08” - Pictures of the inside of the box!

I still have to put on the other side of the box which opens up on hinges from the top. I’ll post on that once that part is completed (hopefully in a day or so)/

I’ll be updating this post and my own blog with more information/pictures (such as how I did the paint, and wired the speakers (there’s 4 of them), sanded and prepped the box etc). Questions/Comments are welcome. =)

Looks great Cerupcat! Can’t wait to see inside… I’m working on one about the same size as well using DI. Looking at the video the screen operates well in a relatively dark environment. How well does it operate in a room with normal or soft light? I’m trying to make my table so that you don’t have to dim the lights TOO much to operate it well.

Hi fairlane. The only reason I darkened the room was so the video camera could see the projection good. The screen works well with all the lights on still. My table is FTIR though. I’ll post some inside pics as soon as I can.

What aspect ratio is it? Doesn´t look like 4:3 or 16:9 really.
Maybe its just the angle of the pictutures too

Thanks Tim! You have a great eye! You’re right, the screen size isn’t 4:3 or 16:9. It’s actually in between. I originally didn’t consider the aspect ratio when I started construction since I wanted to go with that I thought was a good “useful size.” I liked the idea of widescreen, but I thought the width wouldn’t be big enough compared the the height if I did that. The screen is 22in x 35in (56cm x 89cm). So it’s like 8:5 ratio.

any projection space?

Well I just run natively what my projector runs which is 1024 x 768. Yeah, I’m loosing some projection space but very little. Almost the same amount if it was normal ratio. The projection is about 1in (2.5cm) over on each side of the width and then about .5in (1.25cm) over on the length side. So that’s really not much more than you’d loose if doing normal ratio since you want to make sure even if someone bumps the projector the slightest bit that it still covers the whole screen (so I would make the projection slightly bigger than the screen space anyway). It’s hard to say if it it would have been better to do a normal ratio or not; I really like the extra space I get on the width that I wouldn’t have if I went widescreen.

I’ll try and get a picture of the underneath so you can see how the projection lines up.

Haha, ya. The speakers sound mighty fine too. I’ll be posting about them at another time. =)

I am interested to see the inside the box (the placement of projector, cam and speakers.....).
If you have used the mirror, what are the dimensions of the mirror with respect to screen ratio 8:5?
and does it has any effect on the projected distance (from projector to screen)?
