Hi
I need your suggestion about the thickness of the plexi glass for our new multitouch rear DI setup.
The surface of the table will be a half circle shaped.
And size of the table will be 2m x 1m..

we are thinking about to use 2 cm plexi glass. Is it ok?
Should we choose thicker or thinner plexi glass?
any suggestions?

I haven’t built a screen that large, but 2cm acrylic should hold.  Is it possible for you to use tempered glass or to include a very thin metal support rod across your screen somewhere?

I’d think at that scale you might have rigidity concerns over time.

Alternately, your acrylic vendor will have additional information regarding bowing over distance.

Another options, and one that I’ve used for my larger DI builds, is to use a good sized bezel, 1 - 2 inches and actually attach my acrylic to the bezel via a bonding agent or post.

Think about stretching a grommeted banner.  This should keep any bowing to a minimum.

hey, thanks for the suggestions!

Actually, we also thought about your suggestion to put some metal wire under plexi glass.
But we have concerns about the projected image.
We and also customer don’t prefer to see a divided image on the table.
So, we suggest to change the plexiglass, when the bowing issue occurs.
But it’s not the best solution, and makes harder to design table.
Is there any disadvantage to use thicker plexi glass in DI setup?
Can it be a problem while tracking fingers?
Do you have any experience with thicker plexi glasses?

You can use glass with a rear DI setup. Glass is stronger and won’t bend.

I’ve built things this size before, if you are using acrylic you need something about 3~4 cm thick about 2 inches. Specially if you you are attempting to build a flat table top setup, because the center would sag if you don’t. Another thing also to keep in mind is that you would also need about a minimum of 4” overhang this 4” over hang will need something solid to rest on, personally what i also did was periodically drill holes and get it screwed in, if its any smaller you may start getting cracks in the side and they are a plague literally cause once they appear the spread very quickly.

Glass is another option for glass you can get away with something thats 1.5cm~2 cm 5/8 inch to about an inch in thickness it also needs a smaller over hang about a inch or two.
