Hi!

We’ve just released a new software:  Ludique’s Kinect Bundle (LKB).

It is open source and cross platform. It is in an early stage of development but it works with some few bugs.

We plan on including more features when we get some time/support.

You can check it out at : http://code.google.com/p/lkb-kinect-bundle

Some Features :

Use LCD as touch (notebook) :

Skeleton and Hands (with “push")

2-Cam calibration and Viewer

Included TUIO gateway (video shows the standalone version but works the same)

Comments, suggestions and others are welcomed.

Cheers!

This looks fantastic NZRock, thanks for sharing it!

How stable is it when using an LCD as a touchscreen? Does it require recallibration often?

In a wall or floor it has been used for at least some 12 hrs on the row. On an lcd we haven’t tested it for more than a couple of hours . I guess that if the camera doesn’t move, and you have arrived at a stable set of parameters, it should last until you turn it off. Point recalibration is rarely needed.

I’m impressed!

How is the latency when used for touch?

The “Touch extractor and TUIO sender” functions include a Frames Per Second status display. We get 29-31 fps (at most 38 ms or so latency) when used for touch detection and data emission.
Using two Kinects calibrated for touch we still get the same value (we use openmp to perform a parallel camera data retrieval).

Good to know you like it! feedback is always welcomed so please do share your thoughts on LKB.

we compiled that version in windows 7 64bit but with 32 bit openni, nite and avin2.

Did you check the wiki pages? ( http://code.google.com/p/lkb-kinect-bundle/wiki/BasicSetup ).

What error do you get? have you tried the NiViewer sample from OpenNI?

that is the problem… OpenNI and Windows sdk dont seem to get along. We decided to use OpenNI because we wanted to go cross-platform. If you want to use the software you will have to:
-Uninstall Windows SDK and everything related (drivers and so)
-Uninstall OpenNI, NITE and avin2 (if installed)
-Reinstall OpenNi, NITE and avin2 (preferably 32 bit version)
tell me how it goes…
(check the troubleshooting wiki in http://code.google.com/p/simple-kinect-touch )
Good luck!

Hi khoineo, just use your mouse (with left or right button pressed). The 3d mix viewer works smoother (and orientation is corrected).
Cheers!

I use this LKB together with the MTV to make an interactive wall.  But it seems to be less accurate. When I tap a certain point on the desktop (mouse calibration), the injected touch event is not on the same coordinate. let’s say a little bit far from the point of contact. Moreover, it is very sensitive that even without tapping the surface, touch events are recognized. I think its the min and max distance. Do you have any suggested initital value for that? Anyway, when I run MT4j applications in eclipse just like with what you had demo, it seems to have a good calibration. Any ideas?
