I recently created a touch screen coffee table I call the DumbTable.  It is a combination of a coffee table and a tablet.  It is built on a rotating platform that lets the tablet spin indefinitely while maintaining a charge.

Here’s a video of it in action

I will be uploading a better quality video soon.

Correct, although the design allows for any tablet to be used.

I think you can make a bigger multitouch screen for this coffee table. Ipad is a little bit small.

I don’t necessarily believe bigger is always better.  I still want to be able to put things on the table without them sitting on the touchscreen.

I have been working on a small demo of a menu ordering system for a coffee shop.  It was built in jquery mobile, asp.net, and mysql.

A blog post about it here

A link to the actual web app

Although I have been targeting an iPad, any tablet should work.
