Hi guys,

I am Zviad, I am leaving in Tbilisi, Georgia, this is the country between Black and Caspian see, with Caucasus mountain system covering from the north colds and residing on the path of Great Silk Road connecting Asia and Eurpe, former Soviet Union republic.

I love to do various DYI projects, I have made CarPC, working on smart home and media center. I work for Ministry of Education, Deer Leap project, wicth aims to increase effectiveness of education in Georgia, though introducing ICT in public schools, e.g. putting computers (with Linux, Kubuntu) in schools and connecting them to Internet, also providing many kind of ICT tools and methods, trainings and projects to schools.
So we were disscussing a possiblity to have, or make or buy to test a device like Microsoft Surface. I knew, that there should be lot of developments with this stuff, also filled, there will be 100% some DYI initiatives and started to look for stuff like these. and found you wink

First thing what I try, will be FTIR with projector on back. now I am just trying to make and run touchlib and some applications on Linux (since I am useing only Linux)

Ok, i followed this tutorial:  http://www.instructables.com/id/Interactive-Multitouch-Display/

I downloaded touchlibs from:  http://code.google.com/p/touchlib/
I got some problems with svn and i downloaded some files one by one via http
and compiled it on Ubuntu 7.10 following this instructions: http://www.multigesture.net/articles/touchlib-compiling-instructions-ubuntu/

I have glass table and i tested it woth normal white LED and it works with glass but not with IR.  (with IR you can do it pointing LEDs a little upper that a glass, that would have a capping problem, you can’t tocuh with two fingers aligning with the light because the first one will shadow a next.)

Best solution is use IR and Acrylic surface.

I will put the diffuser and the acrylic on my glass table.

1. I joined the LEDs with fine heat-shrink (termoretractabe) tubes in groups of 8 leds in serial for connect this groups in parallel with 12v adapter.

2. Mounted LED groups in some improvised plastic that lets me clamp lets to the surface.

3. I bought 0,8cm Acrylic 60x50 (33€, next time i’ll take it from a bus station XD)

4. All webcams can see IR directly but not reflected from the finger. you must draw out the filter. my cam is a Logitech quikcam with low resolution. i will need better cam for use apps like ReacTable or can scan with the table, things like credit cart reading and fingerprint reading will need HD cam.

I already cant’ use it because as i understand, touchlib is written in ActionScript 3. I cant install Flash CS3 on linux nor on XP virtual machine. apps comes in fla, i can’t compile it as swf (still trying)

EkranaT xxmarob kalkas (ar vicodi rogoraa kalka inglisuraT XDD)

i put a diffusser between my glass table and a acrylic “pad”
Using standard paper as a diffuser it will not work because IR’s can’t traverse it. you mast use transparent mate paper.
i would like black or dark table. i will test painted acrylic or dark diffuser.
My projector is the epson’s one via DVI.

ok. Zviad. i would like to ask you if you know my uncle Gocha Mandaria smile??  he works in Ministry of Education too

standard touchscreens can’t detect more that one touches simultaneity. but i hope that if it would check lines one by one (like TV cannon) it could work like multitouch
