I’m really just learning ActionScript, but I would like to help. The blue tooth idea is great. Also is something I really wanted to use in my app. Can you tell me want your stuck on? Maybe I can get some answers for you. Let me know

I think the best way is to have a rear di and have it take a picture of the bottom of the device when something like it is placed on the table it tries to connect to that device. It may be complicated but would eliminate the need for a tag on the bottom of the device.

I would do it like this:
When a BT device is detected by the BT software(windows or something), it connects the device.
Then, when a fiducial for example is detected, it looks, if the fiducial id is the same as the BT device
If there is the same ID, it loads e.g. the photos from the devide folder

I have an idea that could extend this project. Why not after retrieving the pictures from the phone, display it on the MT table and provide an option to have it emailed to friends? It could extend the functionality of the app after drawing out those pictures....
