Ha ha yeah and perhaps I NEED a projector to test with too! And then maybe I’ll forget to stop testing with it when the project is over… wink

Hi technodai,

How did that purlfrost film work out for you?
I’m thinking about getting some, to replace the tracing paper I’m currently thinking of using (worried about sagging...)

Do you have a photo of the projection on the screen so we can see what the quality is like?

thanks!

It works pretty well but you get a hotspot/glare from the projector so we are avoiding lots of light colours in our apps. On a black background it is OK.

Ok, thats good to know!  I think the tracing paper I got works reasonably well, but I’m still mid build so haven’t really tested the paper except for doing some projection throw tests, but the sagging is likely to be a problem.  I’m thinking of using the temporary spray adhesive to attach the paper to the screen, haven’t heard if anyone has tried that, but could be a nice fix if it doesn’t mark the paper/acrylic or interfere with the IR…

I’m sure I have read something in this forum about the spray adhesive not being good for the acrylic edges. Have a look because the same thread covers glueing rosco and other things that you might find useful

Yeah, we need to research gluing Rosco.  Our parts are starting to arrive now.  Our Beamer is an Hitachi 205, amazing image quality but it gets HOT and the beam distance is long, so you need a mirror.  But, it seems to handle 1600x1200 perfectly which is interesting as it’s not supposed to???  Best quality I’ve seen from a projector yet, all for £500.

Once summer is here we should arrange a NUI meet up.

Hi nebulus,

Here is a pic of our setup being used for smoke. As you can see, the purlfrost supports a fairly decent image even under quite bright artificial lights. However, it is perhaps a little too transparent as we found that during the daytime, ambient IR from the sun overpowered our illuminators. This probably wasn’t helped by the size of our screen or the fact that it was next to a glass wall! For a cheap solution though, it worked great. Also, as gordee mentions above, when projecting white onto the screen the glare from the projector was too high. Would perhaps be worth trying two layers of purlfrost....

Hope this helps!

NB would have posted a video but it took too long to upload :-s
