I have a Sony DV Cam that can see Infrared and I know this for a fact because it sees it during the day and at night it even has an IR light. I was wondering if it would be possible or plausible to use this as a camera for a DI setup or even a FTIR setup. I heard that “All cameras can see some IR” but I was wondering if video cameras were much better at seeing IR than webcams.

If you don’t mind the added bulk, Sony’s Nightshot mode works for FTIR just fine. . .

i have been using a sony DV handycam on my first FTIR setup.. and it works great… just put it to night shot mode.. this removes the IR block filter manually from the lens (you hear a click sound) ... and from the menu, turn off the night mode IR light cause that causes hotspot… now add a visible light cut filter to the lens… and you have one of the better tracking cam.... on a firewire, it gives 30 fps without any framedrop!!!!

you might need to fix the config to dslv to make touchlib work!!!

hope this helps

cheers!!

If it’s an HDV cam, there’s an option to emulate DV (I think it’s called HDV -> iLink).  You probably need to select that, as I don’t know of any webcam drivers that support MPEG.

You may need a special driver for touchlib to recognize your DV camcorder as a web cam, the best ive found is DVdriver. Its $20 US and works GREAT!! Im building my set up this week and this is what im using as well.. Tell me what you think!

There is a trial version but it requires you to restart the program every 5 minutes.
