Howdy all…

So before posting this, I have looked at a lot of posts to try and get a clear understanding of how to do this.

Some posts say developed, others not developed film etc and then I saw what sounded like a great idea, which was taking a picture of a lightbulb etc..

If someone has the time, could you please create a step by step instruction on how to do this, not just for me but for other newbies.... starting at the type of film used etc

I have got the XBox Live cam if that makes it easier to detail the process.

Cheers

Hey Brennon,

Your my first reply! Lucky you!  About IR Filters, its true that a film that has been processed of the shelf (not been inside a camera) makes a good filter of all wavelengths apart from IR, but its not great.  The best way is to use lee filters CONGO blue http://www.leefilters.com/lighting/products/finder/ about 4 layers should work well. it has been said that 6 is best but some cams find it hard to see through.  Also it is very easy to scratch.  To mount it i just bought some slide frames and in it goes!  I hope this helps.

Hey Brennon, this is a simple right up on how to make an IR pass filter using photonegatives....

1) Go out and purchase a reel of film go and take pictures of anything and everything.
2) take is to walmart or anywhere and get it developed.
3) when you get the negatives towards the begining of the reel and the end of the reel are dark semi opaque photo negatives take a look at this picture

4) Cut 2 little squares out of this and place them inside out the lens holder where you removed the IR filter from in xbox live cam.
5) screw the holder back on…
6) and you’re done

Hope this helps… I never bothered to take pictures of this process so i dont have a detailed write up… however i have a detailed writeup of the entire modding process on my blog check it out.

Here’s a little tip when doing the above

You can load the film, leave the camera back open and advance it by hand for several frames, thus exposing more film to work with later. (:
