Hello everyone,

I’ve been lurking around on this board reading for the last week or two and since I began collecting items to begin my MT table, I figured I should register and start picking the collective brains of everyone around here.  So, I’ve got a concept down (tabletop box, not too creative), picked up a nice projector, and an xbox camera that is currently being stubborn and not letting me at the IR filter.

So now I’m trying to draw up some plans for the box, and theres a few questions that I want to ask before I do something I might regret.

First off, I dont see many people too concerned about ventilation inside boxes… An unclosed box wont function as well if its leaking IR from the sides right? Or is it just a matter or placing holes in the right places.  Im assuming that most people have their computer enclosed in this box too… seems like alot of heat buildup would happen.

Now I was leaning towards a DI set-up, simply because circuitry was never my strong point, and I dont much feel like wiring the boards for an FTIR setup.  However, after seeing this new IR laser setup, I might wait it out before I make a decision…

My second question is what projection surface to use.. I was planning on using frosted glass, but now I feel like its not a good choice at all… And whats the deal with Rosco grey? Some people say it works great in their setups, while some complain that it doesnt work at all.

Its quite a lot to learn in a short amount of time, but I’m quite excited about getting my rig up and running!

I would suggest that you wait to see what comes out of this infrared laser setup. Rosco Grey and a piece of acrylic still seems like a pretty good idea.

Keep in mind there are people using rosco grey for FTIR and people using rosco grey for DI, so pple might have different results. As far as ventilation...most people are worried about it surely and many of us have talked about it a little but its pretty easily solved by adding some fans. A lot of us are using PC psus to power our boxes so using case fans is a natural thing to do.
