I have a few questions about building a computer for multi-touch purposes…

1) Which parts are the most important? (ex: should I buy a beefy CPU or GPU?)

2) What sort of processor am I looking for? (ex: Celeron @ 3.0GHz or Core 2 Duo @ 2.4GHz?)

3) What sort of graphics card am I looking for? or… Does the speed affect performance past a certain point? Will an older ATI work just as well as a newer one?

4) Intel or AMD?

5) Nvidia or ATI?

6) Is there anything else I should know when doing this?

Hey

1) you should go with a beefy CPU rather than GPU.
2) go with either a Intel Core 2 Duo or an Intel Quad-Core processor
3) As for graphic card any decent gpu will suffice for now as touchlib does’t consume a lot of gpu power so an ATI X1650 pro or ATI HD2600 or if you are an Nvidia fan then a Geforce 7300 GT or Geforce 8600 GT would be sufficient.
4) it really doesnt make a difference Intel or AMD im an intel fan boy so im gonna say Intel.
5) same for here you can go with either im an ATI fan so i prefer ATI cards.
6) As for computer hardware you should be aware that most bottle necks that occur in the system occur at the cpu since you are doing a lot of visual processing and if you are plan to use flash apps they are really cpu intensive ohh i would also go with 2GB plus RAM.

hope this helps

So this is my basic setup I’m looking at. It’s a bit on the expensive side right now… So what should I be doing differently?
And I use Newegg a lot.

* I’m bringing down excessive things.
* 9600 GSO to 8600 GT
* CD Burner to Card Reader
* Excessive PSU to a more reasonable (and affordable) 400W PSU

The setup looks fine, i suggest going with a smaller HD as well it should be cheaper. Mainly since with a surface computer you really dont require that much space… mainly because sufficient applications havent been developed that would allow to to fully utilise the space...unless you plan to store videos or some thing that consumes a lot of HD space, i dont see a need for 320 GB HD, the same goes with the CD Rom unless you have a specific application in mind that would require the use of a cd-rom device then have it other wise it wont be used that often… i suggest replacing the cd-rom with a media bay (media card reader e.g. SD, memopry stick etc.) You could also bring the PSU down to around 400 or 500 Watts. Otherwise everything else seems fine…

In my view i suggest you save money here and put it into buying a better projector, or if you are working with LCD monitor than a bigger brighter Monitor
