yep the firefly will work for FTIR, and generally what tends to happen is as FPS goes up so does CPU usage… I would recommend just getting the firefly mv cause it works nicely and there isnt any noticible lag after 80 fps… its responsive enough.

Thanks, that answers my question. With Alex’s new touchlib configuration for the PS3 Eye, it seems that this camera will be comparable (if not out perform) the firefly MV and is more cost effective.
Has anyone really tried the new PS3 with Alex’s mods? Is it comparable to the firefly?

nice work, thanks for sharing, can you tell us what kind of laser you used? and how did you set it up?

I was wondering how did you spread the beam over the surface? and where can I get a IR laser? I can only find lasers that burn stuff online....
thanks

Hello knightmare0
We bought our lasers at Steminc and they are part number SMM12850JT10.  We have mounted several tables for customers and no problems whatsoever.
You can Google the part number and you will find them.
Cheers!

I recently picked up the 90 degree swann lens in anticipation of receiving my Firefly, but I notice a reddish tint in the optics.  Is this an IR filter that I can/should remove?

Any sage wisdom or advice is appreciated.

150 degree lens, is this from the Firefly boys?  I tried to do an order with the but they seem to want my soul to cover shipping costs of an item which weights less than a sponge.  And why do I need to order 5, with a dev kit, and give them my inside leg measurement, and tell them why I love Jesus, and give them access to my fridge.  Why do they demand so much?!? smile

Rant over.  150 degree lens you say?

Ha ha, Andrew, great sense of humor! We need it around here…
Ya, I know, it sucks that they will charge you $50 for (s/h) and even more for the international shippments.
There are no restrictions about the minimum order. You can order only one camera but you’ll have to buy their dev kit. I didn’t mind that because it comes with some needed hardware (camera mount, micro lens mounts, micro lens, long firewire cable, firewire card, SDK).

I got the 150 degree lens from the local Fry’s store. Look at here or here. They are about $30.

I’m the noobest of noobies here, though I’ve done lots of websearch on the diy mt.
It’s looking as though using LLP is a forward evolution from FTIR.

I don’t get how you’re causing a red laser leveller to be invisible.
sweet work.
