Ordered (2) of his laser units (Friday), and they were shipped next day (Saturday), and they arrived on Monday! Incredibly fast shipping, and a great seller!

I totally agree with that, he’s an excellent seller. Within 3 or 4 days i received the lasers (all the way to the Netherlands)

Hey Glenn, thanks for the props. I can’t wait to see your setup…
Hello. I’m wondering if I could get some help with the improved Touchlib? Basically, after Vista screwed up on me I went to XP SP3, have .NET Framework, new JAVA etc. The 360 Vision cam was running at 60fps, it was so cool, then all of a sudden it’s running at about half that speed. Also, no matter what I do to the config.xml in terms of threshold etc, when I load ConfigApp or any of the demo’s the values are different.
I haven’t used XP (or Windows) in a while, so it may be a system thing, has this happened before?
Is anybody else having this problem? I have copied alex’s new version of touchlib into touchlib beta 2.0, thereby replacing the touchlib folder that was already in there. I use the sever and vision .bat to begin to collect blob data and alex’s FPS calculator show approx 60fps and blobs are detected. So far so good…
When I access the clients folder and start photo app for example, there is no response, although the touch listener window still reports blobs being detected. Why is this? I am no doubt missing some vital step, but not being very familiar with the package as a whole I have no idea what it might be.
Incidentally the smoke app runs like lightning and when I try the flash apps the fps counter shows nearly 112 fps at 640 x 480! So if I could get it to work properly with those apps it would be fantastic…
N.B I am using Vista 32bit, Core 2 Duo T8100 @ 2.1 ghz, 3 gig ram. When running smoke or flash apps the CPU runs at around 45%.

technodai,
What camera re you using? Are you running flash swf in the iexplorer? Did you adjust the flash security settings?

Hi Alex, I’m using the phillips spc 900nc. Flash is being tested locally, shouldn’t be any security issues as I’ve been testing various flash apps for a while now and haven’t come up against any problems.
I’m going to have another go at it shortly, perhaps it was more due to the fact I was working on it late at night. A meatware problem rather than a software one
Ok, I just thought I’d better mention that the problem I was having doesn’t seem to be anything to do with Alex’s speed fix touchlib. It turns out that flash multi touch apps have stopped working whichever touchlib version I use, and also whether I use my desktop or laptop. I appreciate this is a bit off topic now but does anyone have any idea why this might happen? the only thing I have done recently on BOTH laptop and desktop is install the new version of firefox. WHat’s going on?
Problem solved, sort of. Alex, you were right - it must be a security issue as I just tried a flash projector file and it worked. It really is a lot quicker with your new version. FPS counter shows consistent 59/60fps (photo app still shows around 120fps not sure why though). Nice work.
For anyone else using the spc900 nc I found that reducing the gain in the camera settings to nil, and the shutter speed to the max got the best results. Just out of curiosity, why is it that I don’t get the option to go to 90fps? The spc 900nc should be able to handle it and would be great with Alex’s faster touchlib…
technodai, 90fps is only an option at 320 x 240. 60fps is the highest option at 640 x 480. Regardless, the SPC900nc doesn’t do true 60 or 90fps. It’s interpolated and it sends the same frame to achieve the 60 and 90fps so you won’t see a real leap in performance setting the fps higher.
I see. So if it doesn’t do 60 or 90fps is it better to stay at 30, thereby reducing cpu load? If at 60fps the spc900nc is just duplicating frames, I don’t see how that could help performance at all.
Thanks for the info cerupcat, something to think about when considering camera purchases in future…

Besides the frame rate issue, keep in mind that spc900 camera compresses the images before sending them to the host machine.
This introduces artifacts to the captured images.
