To little information. Pete Thompson in his welcome speech has said that surface team will show everything. From demo programs till infrastructure and development. And bloggers should write about this.
Until now there is only some video with programs and 2min poor testing video. Where is everything else???? I mean that was 2 days!!!!!!!!!!!! And what we get is total 20 minutes video with 15 min of old stuff.
I think you have invited wrong bloggers :( They are interested only in headlines and not in technology. Very sad.

I’m assured that Surface Team has made a great event. And Surface is very innovative technology. Next time Microsoft should send own cameramen to this event and film EVERYTHING smile

Now about Seadragon demo....  COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL smile I wish Surface SDK would be public. And we could write drivers for our DI, FTIR, ... - tables smile

Really stunning stuff Robert huge congratulations to you and your team on this release smile

It has been inevitable to see Seadragon/Photosynth be mixed with Surface… and the results are just outstanding.

Infinite ZUI space (2.5D) is definitely the future of browsing rich content and applications… also the use of physical objects or fidicuals to controls menu navigation is very fluid. As for Shadow Box… its great how the nature of its use creates beautiful abstract art. I’m sure its something we all dreamt about… dropping an object on your (digital) desk and it mocks it (takes photo) then allows for further manipulation (real life copy/paste). Very interesting times are amongst us… and I look forward to seeing what your team showcases next… I am sure it will inspire our community once again!

@Daniel - I agree and hope the Surface SDK becomes transparent and available to educational research and someday open community smile

@rlevy - Is there anything you could tell us regarding the SDK? Maybe even a date when you disclose more information on Surface Development?

I did find:

Windows 7: Touch Computing
In Windows 7, innovative touch and gesture support will enable more direct and natural interaction in your applications. This session will highlight the new multi-touch gesture APIs and explain how you can leverage them in your applications.

I think we had people from roughly 5 sites show up.  Not sure what the selection criteria was or if I’m allowed to publish the invitee/attendee lists.  I know there are a few more things we showed that haven’t gotten much mention much yet so hopefully more goodness is yet to come.

I showed a new SDK demo highlighting our new 128-bit tags but asked that it not be video taped.  When I can find some free time, I’m gonna try to work out a few little kinks and then have the marketing folks stick a video of it up on Youtube for you guys.

The flickr demo at the end of the “wish you were here” link is the one I did.  It’s not obvious from the image but if you look closely you can see that the top photo in surface-030_r.jpg is actually a physical printed photo with a 128-bit tag on the back that lets the system treat it like a virtual photo (showing metadata pulled from a database, etc)

Our v1 isn’t able to read standard barcodes.  Do you guys know of any other vision-based systems that can?

@Robert

I have seen Flash/AS3 use a webcam to scan and decode EAN 13 barcodes…

See: http://en.barcodepedia.com/ (you need webcam)
And: http://code.google.com/p/as3barcodelib/

In theory this would be rather simple to port to C#

Reactivision fiducial markers can be read using there flipflop id system, surely this process can be implemented to scan barcodes? Anything that can be imagined can be created?! Opinion not fact no exitential comments please!
