Hello, long time lurker, (almost) first time poster here.

I’m currently in the process of building an FTIR LCD screen (themultitouch.wordpess.com), and I just got the ftir effect to work on bare acrylic. I’m currently looking into compliant surfaces, since the software I’m going to be building will involve a lot of dragging, and dragging obviously doesn’t work well on bare acrylic.

My problem is that it’s hard for me to get the proper materials for a silicon layer, so I’m currently looking into other ways of making dragging easier to track on my screen. I’ve looked around on the forums here, but I haven’t found any alternatives that leave you with a transparant compliant surface. I have seen that people are just touching their LCD, but seeing as my screen will be in a public place for presentation, that doesn’t seem like a very durable solution to me…

Has anyone done any semi(succesful) experiments that I could look into for my screen? Any input would be greatly appreciated. ( :

Well, not that anyone is replying, but I’ll just post this anyway for people who are interested: I’ve come up with a solution based on Tinkerman’s research on textured silicone on drafting vellum. Click my blog in my signature for more details on that.

Since this thread is still generating daily traffic to my blog, I’m guessing people still read this, so I’ll post a little update: I decided to go with lasers instead of a compliant surface. Tinkerman’s solution with textured silicone vellum is still a great solution though, and he figured out an easier way to do it. Just browse around the forum and you’ll find a thread all about that.
