Me too. The Google book search site is pretty good but they limit you on pages. I have all of the books that I’m reading at home so that helps. I just thought that this could help others get started. What books are you reading?

MY favorite book that got me up and running in the least amount of time is “Foundation actionscript animation: making things move!” After reading chapter 2, I knew enough to start.

I haven’t read much.  I’ve been checking out some video tutorials on getting started with Flash and AS3.  I haven’t made it to the as3 part yet- just getting familiar with how to use the tools in Flash right now.  I figure that after I’m familiar with the software visually, I will better comprehend text tutorials that I read later.

@ justin: I used flash way back like 6-7+ years ago, but only copied actionscript from others at the time and didn’t understand it. I used it only for very simple web animation. About 2 years ago I had classes that used flash and so I started learning again but didn’t really know what I was doing. I only learned how to really use actionscript a little more than a year ago and when AS3 came out. The book I mentioned above is really what got me started very quickly and books normally don’t help me all that much.

Mee too.
I need to watch someone do it first. That’s how I learn, but I’m forcing myself to learn ActionScript. I can’t wait for anyone to teach me. So I have been reading like crazy in between clients. I’m going to look into the book you read. I saw that before but never picked it up.

I haven’t seen that site yet.

I was digging around here last week for any AS3 info I could find, and I found a link to loads of free video tutorials on the Flash platform:  http://www.gotoandlearn.com/

And for anyone who hasn’t seen the ‘getting started with Flash Develop and AS3’ thread that NUIman posted: http://nuigroup.com/forums/viewthread/1689/

If you have $200, I can recommend buying a years subscription to http://www.lynda.com. Do as many courses online as you like for a year. She has some brillient course on Actionscript, Air, Flex as well as all the Adobe products. Just added a course for the latest Dreamweaver CS4. New courses coming all the time. I’ve just renewed for my second time.

You can try them for free. You get to see the first few lessons of each course. I found it much easier than searching torrents for out of date courses.
