So I built a 55” inch FullHD touchtable with a IR touch frame ala PeauProductions G4S.  But now what?

Windows 8 is horrible at touch.  And who wants to have multiple people crowded around one edge of the screen and no way to rotate the windows like the original Microsoft/Samsung SUR40

Step 1

So i found Compiz Freewins (freely transformable windows) and Metisse. Both sadly are no longer maintained and Freewins is little more than eye candy as there is no way to interact with the windows

Along comes Wayland and input redirection.... with window rotation!

Step 2

Apps… how about running an android emulator in the host OS, and tada… all the native touch apps you could need and more… so I have installed Genymotion and load touch apps like android google earth and I no longer need to mess with GestureKey and what not.

Next step is to try and run linux (probably archlinux) with Wayland and run multiple instances of genymotion so more than one can use the touch table computing…

Any thoughts, criticisms, advise?

Here is a working, but currently unavailable ui for multiuser multiseat multitouch interface with a wide a ecosystem… check out the links below… also can run android apps in chromium browser no need to mess with virtual machines or Android emulators

Still waiting to here from developers about availability, but this would be exactly what large surface touch computing needs!

So Nemo-UX/Shell is almost a reality… expected release is January 2016.  As in the previous post, this is a wayland based multitouch multiseat user interface with app rotation. Android apps are supported via chromium browser and linux distro is based on Yocto linux… will post back with feedbacks and picks as soon i have it up and running…
in the meantime check out their website
