I’ve been reading the forums for a while and am finally starting a FTIR touch screen of my own.  I’ve even setup a blog to record my progress, which so far is not very far.  I’ve got most of the parts but haven’t actually started any construction yet.

I’m sure I’ll be posting questions as I progress further through the process.

Thanks,

I should hopefully start making progress shortly as I convinced my company to reimburse me the cost of all materials if I will keep it in our office.  They really want me to get it finished before a conference in August, but the way things are going, I’m doubting it will be finished by then.  My wife will be heading out of town for a weekend coming up though, so perhaps I will manage to get it done then.

I tried to go to get some U/C channel aluminum last night from Home Depot, but they didn’t have it.  It seems from things I have googled that I should have gone to Lowes.

Anyways, after I get that I should start making progress.

Yeah, you might find that you spend a lot more time waiting on parts than actually building the table but I would think you’d be able to hit that August deadline.  Are you going to be building any custom software?  It’s pretty easy to tweak the stuff that is already floating around.  (Drop a company logo in the background and pull specific photos to play with via Flickr or something) And this is a great community to help if you are having any difficulties at all. smile

Well, I work with GIS software and want to get this working with ESRI’s ArcMap as well as some of our own software, but since I’m not spending any “work time” on it, I don’t plan on spending too much time on the software side initially.  (Although once I get pulled into a fun software project I find I can end up spending much more of my free time writing code than I planned!  Gotta love it when your work is also your hobby that you thoroughly enjoy!)

I really haven’t spent alot of time checking out the software and libraries that are available for this yet since I figured the software side would be the easy part.  I did download the libraries but wasn’t able to use them since I didn’t have a camera at the time.
