Hi everybody,
so i am finished with my experiments trying to create silicone skin.
First i tried the squeezing technique, Tinkerman used, but it’s almost impossible to create large thin sheets that i can use separately (not 100% the same thickness everywhere, not a a consistent surface). I used a different apporach with textured foils trapping inbetween the silicone (by the way: when the silicone is poured between two sheets of foil to thin it, you have lot’s of time to squeeze and remove bubbles, etc. cause it takes much longer to cure)
I also looked forward to use the roll-on technique to create those sheets but single sheats just DON’T work in layering with rosco. THe set off the ftir effect perfectly when used just with the acrylic, but as soon as you put rosco on it,
the ftir is started off and it’s all totally messed with traces. No fast release, only traces that stay for a long long time…
Before i got my rosco, i always thought it’s some kind of fabric, but it isn’t it’s some PVC like thin foil. Just to mention it.
I also tried to layer different transparent foils with silicone and than use it with rosco. No success.
It simply limits the ftir effect.
I guess that has all to do with “too much” air between the layers.
My originial intention was to use rosco as a projection material and use cheap silicone from the hardwarestore,
so if the silicone layer would become less effective with time, i wanted to just replace that layer.
But after all, if there is no way to combine rosco with some of this standard silicone, i’ll give up. But maybe someone else has ideas about that?
I am not sure, but has anyone managed to create a layering without directly covering the rosco an did not apply
silicone directly on the acrylic?
I just wonder: My layers work really nice when only having the skin on the acrylic. perfect.
But when i apply the rosco, just traces of ir there.
So why does it work with rosco when the silicone (e.g. sorta clear, in most cases) is directly applied to the acrylic?
I wonder why the the rosco does not stick on it.
Maybe i missed something.
Thanks for any comments or links to the forum i just overlooked
