My webcam has recently started acting up when Touchlib is running at any output size. It flickers very bad (like epileptic flickering).
It was working fine before I switched from the onboard video card to a nVidia GeForce XFX-8400GS. I disabled the onboard video card before I installed the nVidia software, but I guess I did something else wrong? I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the software for the video card. I also changed the webcam from 50hz to 60hz...it didn’t change anything. I did the same in the nVidia control panel too (50, 60, 70hz)
It seems as though the XFX is installed properly. As a matter of fact, when I open my webcam’s property window the webcam’s video is perfect...no flickering or jittering. Also, when I run touchlib with my webcam and set it to I420 instead of RGB 24 under “color space and compression” ---- it works slightly better. No flickering, but several other anomalies such as very delayed video.
Also, when I plug my minidv camcorder through firewire just to see if it works under touchlib - it works great for the most part. There’s a few dropped frames every now and then- but definitely works well enough. Too bad I can’t disable the IR filter in it like a Sony. I’m looking for a decent cheap Sony handycam minidv, but I need to get this VX-1000 LifeCam working for now.
I noticed that smoke still looks pixellated when I run it. That was one of the main reasons I got a new video card. I thought I needed something with better pixel shading technology. Smoke on my pc barely looks like the Smoke I see running in people’s videos. Mine has HUGE pixels and is not smooth looking smoke at all. What am I doing wrong? I have messed with the color/resolution settings in the nVidia control panel to no avail. It runs as fast as can be...just horrible quality (compared to other people’s setups)
Can anyone shed some light on any of this please?
Here are my specs:

Vista Ultimate on eMachine
GeForce XFX-8400GS
