Hey everyone,

I’m finishing the designs for my FTIR multi-touch wall and was wondering what method of mounting would be best.  Right now the best idea I had was bonding the acrylic in place to my H-Channel aluminum against my LEDs with silicone, then maybe screwing the H-Channel into the rest of the aluminum frame.  Alternatively, bonding the H-Channel to a recessed frame so it’s flush with the front side, then screwing a front plate over it so everything is flush and held in tightly.

Not too sure if silicone is the best way I should be attaching my acrylic to my H-Channel, or if my framing idea in general is even good.

Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks!

I’d go for a sliding option like in my setup (but mines a table) to allow for maintenance etc.

I would go with the sliding idea because it is most likely the best way to make sure that you don’t have anything inside the acrylic that would mess with the Internal Reflection, you solved this with your silicone idea but it would be easier to just slide it in like Taha suggested because it would not only allow for maintenance but would enable you to move it up or down if you needed.

I’m bad about monitoring posts so if you have a question regarding something I’ve said, then just send me a PM.

Taha I checked your blog for your display, but I’m not quite seeing any sliding ability.  I definitely liked the solid frame idea though.  I also noticed you taped yours down.  I’m worried about not securing the glass with silicone or something similar in fear that with tape or something lighter my acrylic would descend and crush the bottom row of LEDs.  Perhaps I’m misunderstanding what you mean?

Yeah the pictures on my blog havent been updated… its here is the showcase link http://nuigroup.com/forums/viewthread/2562/
what i’ve done is, i made an IR frame and put that around the acrylic sheet, and that whole thing slides out… There are various U Channel profiles avaiable that you can use to accomlish this as well…

About your concern that you’ll crush your leds i doubt that will occur i’ve tested my setup up vertical as well, and its worked fine… and If you use duct tape or Aluminum tape they have a pretty strong glue to them it shouldn’t move at all.

Ahhhh I see now.  That’s rather brilliant and think I’ll have to go that direction.  If for no other reason, this will be in a university environment and someone is bound to break something.  Thanks for the suggestion Taha!
