Hey Guys,

I have a playstation eyetoy that I got for cheap and I want to remove the ir filter on it. Only problem is that I can’t exactly find it in the camera. I’ve searched online to no avail, although I have seen the eyetoy on many lists of cameras that are able to modded for IR light. Anyone here have any luck or experience they would like to share?

Thanks!

I’m not sure, but is it possible that the IR filter is actually coated onto the lens of the camera?

Hi!
I started my work right today, and i’m just done modding my camera...a ps2 eyetoy smile
It took me a couple of hours to do the job, but i think i can be quite satisfied with it! I’m going to give it some more test now, but as far as i can see, it’s working fine.
If it may be of any interest, i can post some pics i took while doing the dirty job..maybe it will help you! (Or maybe i’ll find out i didn’t remove any IR filter, but some important lens i-don’t-know-about)
Let me know smile

These pics are not showing the actual stripping off of the camera, but show the IR filter removed (1020995a), the camera lens (103001a), the empty slot where i removed the ir filter from (103004a) and a virtual assembly of all the pieces (1030008a).
If you need pics for the actual steps, then i’ll try to take some pics and edit them in order to give you a more detailed process info...sorry for the impossible image names as well smile

Anyway, once the bottom screws were taken off the shell, i had to pull the front lens round plastic coming out of the box till it was completely taken apart, then push the main circuit board off the box gently.
Once done this, i took off the other two screws that were holding the lens plastic case against the vertical circuit board. Now i just had to detach the plastic case covering the lens GENTLY using a cutter and bare hands (it’s glued to the small vertical circuit board).
BEWARE, as soon as you detach it, the lens will be exposed to anything, since it will have no protection anymore.
Take out the IR filter from the black cover you just removed and replace it with the filter you prefer.
I’d suggest taking some time for your tests before reassembling the whole thing back.
Hope this helps!
