Finnish company called simply Multitouch Corp. has announced an product line which contains LCD-based modular multitouch screen system.

These are the guys behind Citywall i think and they have been developing these for couple of years. Seems to be very interesting technique that recognises hand and fingers and keeps them tracked as one object.

Quote from tietokone.fi-news (in finnish):
“Näytön, kameran ja ohjelmiston sisältävän järjestelmän hinnat lähtevät 4200 eurosta.
32-tuumaisen näytön, hd ready -näytön (1366 x 768 kuvapistettä) ja käyttövalmiin Linux-koneen kanssa järjestelmän hinta on alkaen noin 4700 euroa.
46-tuumaisen full hd -näytön kanssa hintaa tulee noin 10 900 euroa.”

Translation:
Screen, camera and software package starts from 4200 euro.
With 32-inch hd-ready sceen and ready-to-use linux-computer the price is from 4700euro
With 46 inch Full HD-screen the system will cost somewhat 10900 euro.

Quite costy tough…

Thank you for your interest in MultiTouch products.

Please find attached our prices. They are in euros, but with today’s currency exchange rate into US dollars, the prices are:
46” Full HD is $15,712
32” Full HD is $ 8,217
32” HD ready is $ 6,776

Shipping is not included the prices.

Little Steep, yes! But looks like a very elegant solution.

Not affordable to many of us :( Devices should cost < 1000 to make Multitouch popular.

Considering you can’t buy a 32 - 46” HD LCD for much less than 1000, that won’t be happening anytime soon.

I’m wondering which kind of drivers are required and if TUIO output is supported by them =)
Where I can get more technical infos about those products?

Regards,
Gene.

New tech is always expensive.  We must build MT devices ourselves now and wait for the prices to come down.  But we will be ahead of the curve in development of software because of this, which is an advantage.  smile

I will also try to get some more technical details.

My guess is also DI LCD based systems
Daniel D, I think you will have to sit in a long time capsule, before you want to see multi-touch solutions for less then 1000.
A good projector alone is already 1000+ EUR, as well as 46” LCD’s, let alone the additional components and time required to manufacture
