It’s just that i can’t really make this clear myself....i used the “search” thingie i swear, so don’t shout at me after this ok? rasberry
I’m wondering, some ppl say normal visible leds won’t emit ir light....some other do...i tested this with my modded cam and a stripe of normal white leds i got, and my cam does catches the lights (it can really see no visible light but ir).
i’m a bit confused at the moment…

btw, today i ordered my acrylic...60cmx40cm with polished edges...can’t wait to get it!
now i just need to clear my mind about any solution for ir leds....i went on cheking for the ir ribbons, but i saw they’re out of stock, and won’t be refilling till late september, and due to lack of time, i need to order them much earlier...any idea about this? should i go for normal ir leds?
sorry for this sort of a “double post”!

Ok i found the right place where to buy OSRAM SFH485P leds, i think i’ll go for those. http://it.farnell.com/1212738/optoelectronics/product.us0?sku=osram-sfh485p
One last question: when the array wizard (http://led.linear1.org/led.wiz) prompts me for values (diode forward voltage, current etc) what parameters should i type in? 12V, 1.5, 100 and x number of leds? i checked the SFH485P specs and there’s no 1.5 diode forward voltage, there’s just a 3V voltage...i’m sorry for this dumb questions but i’m not into electronics AT ALL, i’m just trying to get out of it by myself (and by this forum).
Thanks!

It’s possible the white LED you used, uses phophor to create white light. That is, the led emits blue or UV light, but different layers of phosphoric meterial causes the white appearance. It’s possible one of the poshpor layer is re-emitting IR light. Try testing using a colored LED.

More information here.

Normal IR leds will be fine I should think. Just be sure you get as much IR light in the acrylic as possible (Assuming you’re doing FTIR).

Sorry, google translate won’t translate this page.

But I can clear things up for you. When the wizards says “diode” they are talking about the LED (Light Emitting Diode). So the ‘source voltage’, would be whatever power supply voltage you want to use to power the whole thing. The ‘diode forward voltage’ is simply the voltage rating for the LED. The ‘diode forward current (mA)’ is the current rating of the LED, in milliampers. And ‘number of LEDs in your array’ is, well, I hope self-explanatory.

Thanks for your reply Sniperchang!
I’m sorry i didn’t mention this, but yes i’m doing FTIR....and i’m sorry as well for the link i posted, i can see the led specs in english there so i thought it would be ok.
Well then, i’ll go for the wiring calculation (i love that wizard) and then make my order for the leds..hopefully, i’ll be able to start soldering in 3-4 days.
