I’m trying to find a transparent IR Blocking film or plastic. There’s a few ones from big companies that offer very expensive materials. Anyone know of a make shift IR blocking transparent material, or a cheap one I could find?
I think you’re talking about an IR filter-the most popular ones seem to be exposed photo negatives or the magnetic part of a floppy disk.
good luck

You can look at window tinting films they usually add more contrast to the image but they can do a decent job of blocking IR. You can also use Rosco Grey that blocks a fair ammount of IR
Oh, sorry. I understand what you’re talking about now. How about rosco grey or rosco black? Not sure if it is particularly cheap, but I think I read in a forum thread somewhere that you could get a yard (not sure how you could measure it in linear units, but whatever) for $14 + shipping. Ah, here’s the link: http://nuigroup.com/forums/viewthread/502/

EDIT: whoops, didn’t see Taha’s reply. sry.

Well, you’re getting closer! Look at my first thread “IR blocking transparent material”. Transparent cause I’m using a LCD as opposed to a projector, so the rosco diffusers won’t work for my application.

^^^^^^^^^^ Silicon Layer.
========== Acrylic Surface - The blobs are here, NOT going through IR Blocking.

The window films might work though, hmm...
Ahhh ok...I see now. I have no idea
Good luck though…

i believe that i’ve read before, lexan is a great ir filter. you can get it as low as 1/32in x 24in x 48in sheet (film) for $6 or (for a bit stronger) 1/16in for $28. these are the first google link that pop’d up. so im sure they’re are alot cheaper.
and if you put on top of your silicone, you dont have to worry about stains.

Great, thanks for the info. Is just normal lexan act as a ir filter, or do I need a special type lexan? Any links you may have would be appreciated.
as i understand, any lexan should work, but all i can find right now are people talking about xl10, which is uv coated and doesn’t have anything to do with ir. if you live in the US, it might be worth going to Home Depot or Menards or ACE Hardware and buying a small “sample” piece and test with your camera.
or, if you have one, bring a handycam (or other camera with nightvision) and a small tv remote control and test. the worst that will happen is someone will look at you funny.
