Hello,

My name is David Nahon, I’m in charge of Dassault Systèmes (DS) Immersive Virtuality domain (the true VR if you prefer), originating from Virtools company (we joined the DS group in 2005), and in charge of VR products

I discovered your community by chance, actually while looking for a PS Eye driver for Windows
Virtools might be known by you as quite a lot of artists, creative people, creative groups, schools and companies are using it for any kind of interactive 3D applications (http://www.virtools.com)

What may be less known, is our support for vision devices (we support directShow under Windows and quicktime on Mac) and GPU shaders (enabling GPU-based vision algorithms).
We demonstrated support for such technologies by integrating ARToolkit and making a demo at Siggraph (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6sASwvCVlQ), which I am quite proud to have concieved !

For those who would wonder, virtools is a commercial software, sorry !

I’m here for professional reasons but also because of my personal background, having worked for 8 years in the field of interactive installations for public places (checkout http://www.z-a.net if you are intersed), often using vision devices (first IR cam use was in 1999)

I hope to catchup in this very fast growing area and hopefully contribute

Cheers

D.

PS: We’re quite proud to see the video report of Siggraph’08 (http://nuigroup.com/log/comments/siggraph_2008/), where 2 of my prefered Virtools-based piece of work were exhibited: “The dreaming pillow” by Armello Leung and Olivier Oswald, and the “IncreTable” by Media Interaction Lab (Hi Jacob !)

I believe Nuiman posted a video of the dreaming pillow on nuigroup a little while back. It looked great! When I first saw it I thought that it was using robotics/animatronics as the arm movement looked so real. Very nice. Very scary too!

Hi David. I am also a fellow member of the VR world. I worked for 5DT and most recently EON Reality. I’ve always seen Virtools at SIGGRAPH and at IEEE VR this year but never met anyone. Nice to meet you. smile
