Thanks to this team in Germany some really inspiring stuff!!

The Digital Volvelles 1.0 contributes a new application and design for the interface in order to structure and access content that allows the user enough space to intuitively explore the information and interact with it. Visit the blog http://digitalvolvelles.wordpress.com/ for more information. This application is technically based on Adobe Flash (AS3) TouchAPI (pre-lux) and the TouchLib (http://touchlib.com/).

Idea, Concept & Design; Art Direction: Melanie Seyer (http://www.melsbox.com), technical implementation & flash programming: Niqui Merret (http://niquimerret.com/) , Multi-touch table engineering & backend: Johannes Luderschmidt ((http://johannesluderschmidt.de/)

thanks for putting our video on nuigroup’s homepage! that’s a HUGE compliment.

@Taha thank you very much. mel’s design is really great. however, @Leachim is not completely wrong: in terms of usability we could make some improvements wink

however, this application is her master’s thesis work in communications design and should be a study of how design and the filtering of information could be achieved in a very visual approach. actually, it is very experimental and was intended to be so…

we’re considering to change some aspects of the work to make it more usable in future though.

cheers
johannes

It looks cool to me too! Its great for my research to see how people are approaching new apps for multitouch, in my opinion image viewers and games are not harnessing the full potential of multitouch.

@All: Thank you for the nice feedback and many thanxs for putting our video on nuigroup.com!

@gordee: I definitely agree. I’m interested in finding and designing new apps and interfaces that can help the user to deal with the increasingly complex and fluent content. The Digital Volvelles 1.0 is an attempt to deal with the overload of information without losing the instant access and the overview. The multitouch technologie definitely supports new ways of retrieving and accessing information but also how to interact with it. The Volvelles are still very experimental and not at all finished. We hope to be able to improve it and take it a bit further.
